Issue 55 Term 4- Week 9 2013 Principal’s Message NSW School’s Spectacular I’m sure many people watched the School’s Spectacular broadcast, looking for our very talented dance group. They certainly performed tremendously well and were an absolute credit to themselves, their families and our school. To be involved in something as big as School’s Spectacular is a unique and exciting experience which provides life long memories for students and parents alike. Not only did our dancers perform brilliantly, their behaviour was outstanding throughout the long days of rehearsals, matinee and evening performances. I received a wonderful phone call from the Deputy Principal of a school who shared the dressing room with our students. She made the effort to call me to congratulate, not only our students on their exemplary behaviour and friendliness, but also our staff for their care and lovely manner with our children, as well as their friendliness and helpfulness. Such a phone call was a delight to receive and is proof of the great work our students and staff do when representing our school and promoting the good name of Bonnyrigg Public School. It certainly made me very proud. All of this is, of course, the result of a lot of extremely hard work. Actually, we were the only primary school in the Fairfield Network in the show this year. Thank you so much to: Mrs Forland, Mrs Howlett, Mrs Brady, Miss Clement, Miss Daly and our dancers and their parents who provided such great support. Stage 3 Dancers Our Stage 3 students were invited to perform at Bonnyrigg Plaza recently and did a fantastic job. They performed the routines which received so much praise at the Parks Area Performing Arts Festival and, again, received a great reception and attracted many compliments. They have also brought great credit to our school and have done a terrific job promoting Bonnyrigg Public School in our local area. Thank you very much to the Stage 3 staff; Mrs Nies, Miss Fiso, Miss Strickland, Mrs Dickson and Mr Baker, all our performers and our supportive parents. Multicultural Day Our recent Multicultural day was a huge success thanks to the wonderful support of our families and great work by our students and staff. The amount of fantastic food that came in was staggering! Throughout the day students were involved in a wide variety of cultural activities, including a visit to the Buddhist temple next door. The whole day was a fine example of multiculturalism at its best – which is certainly the case every day at our school. Many thanks to all staff, students and families for your great efforts and especially to Mrs McElroy for her overall organisation and to Miss McAlister, Mrs White, Mrs Sor, Mrs Dickson, and Mrs Nguyen. News and Information Kik messenger Does your child use Kik? Police have described it as ''the No.1 social media problem involving teenagers'', but most parents would barely have heard of messaging app Kik before last week. Find out what it is: http://www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/technology/technology-az/-/technology_glossary/7w0F/5353/Kik+messenger Choosing school shoes Are expensive school shoes the best option for happy feet? Let's face it. School shoes have never been at the cutting edge of fashion. In fact if you look at what your parents were wearing, the humble school shoe really hasn't evolved much at all. Tips for choosing shoes: http://www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/wellbeing/health/choosing-the-right-school-shoes

Talking Drums On Tuesday the 26

th November, students from stage 2 and 3 who participate in the ‘Talking Drums’

workshops with Miss Sharon and Miss Mary from Anglicare, had the opportunity to represent Bonnyrigg Public School and perform a demonstration of the skills learnt during this term at a community event. I had the privilege of accompanying the students to the ‘Communities for Children Fun Day’ and was very proud of the students and extremely impressed by their ability to work together as a group and support one another. It has been fantastic watching these students develop and strengthen their social skills while enjoying hand drumming. Miss McAlister
