Congratulations to Paige Mitchell for being

awarded the Golden Frame Award last week.

She has put a lot of hard work into her Art-

Reading in our modern world is more important than ever. When your kids see you reading and writing in everyday life – reading for pleasure, sharing a story with them, using a recipe, making a shopping list, writing a birthday card, reading street signs, or reading and writing emails – it teaches them that reading and writing are useful skills.

I encourage all parents to read with their child every night. It is a great way to support your child with their learning.

1. Taking portraits in photography with Just Jo.

2. Comparing the relationship between fractions and decimals such as 0.5 = ½.

3. Learning about the Muslim Sharia Law in Cultural Studies with Miss Wally.

4. Debating subjects like :-

Green room is focusing on TIME over the next two weeks. We are

learning how to use analogue and digital clocks. On Monday we created

our very own clocks. We had to make sure we had all twelve numbers

in the right places and that our hour hand was shorter than our minute

hand.

In Science our topic this term is ‘Feathers, Fur or Leaves’. We read the Stickman story which inspired us to create our very own Stick and Leaf men using natural materials. We are currently creating stories about our Leaf men using iMovie on the iPads.

This term, students in the Red Room have been studying ‘Desert Survivors’ as part of their Science Unit. They have been conducting experiments involving absorption, condensation and desiccation. We have continued to explore different writing styles and focussed on using a wider range of words to enhance our writing.

We have worked on improving our automatic recall of the multiplication facts with Abi showcasing her expertise in this area. We have consolidated the use of the four mathematical operations to ensure that we are able to use them with confidence and accuracy. The students have also enjoyed wood burning in Visual Arts and thoroughly enjoyed their work in Cultural Studies where they have been translating English to Arabic.

During PE sessions the students have been honing their skills in basketball and playing various strategy games.

Our Science unit this term is called ‘Watch It Grow!’ We have been ob-serving worms and learning about their life cycles! Some of our worms have shed their skin and one has also become a beetle!

This term, we are also teaching our brains to have a Growth Mindset, focusing on saying ‘I can’ instead of ‘I can’t’! We have also learnt about the power of ‘yet’! We are looking forward to another brilliant week in Blue Room!

Yellow News...

Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe, Be a Friend and Be a Learner

This week in Yellow Room we started a program called ‘Resilience,

Rights and Respectful Relationships’. Students have been exploring

emotions and playing games to understand what different emotions feel

like to us, and look like to others.

Students have been learning about Shapes and Number Patterns in

Maths and we are exploring the phonemes (sounds) that ’b’ and ’z’

make.

Here are some learning activities that Yellow Room students particularly

enjoy... “I love writing my weekend recount.” (Billie) - “I love doing

yoga and building Target words.” (Nina) - “I love learning to read the

Golden words.” (Deagan) “I like learning about shapes.” (Jesse)
