I wish everyone a safe and fun Easter break. I know that a lot of families will be camping and enjoying flowing rivers. It has been great to see our students stretching their thinking and challenging themselves in maths. Jose and Luca have worked out the mystery to the number sequence featured on our explicit improvement agenda poster (hidden within the shaft). They noticed the pattern and were then challenged to find the name of the number pattern. Their research discovered that it is known as the Fibonacci sequence and it makes a spiral that can be found in nature. Interested to know more? Check out the Math is Fun website. I had the pleasure of attending 4B's Twits Book launch this week. I was very impressed with the quality of the writing the students achieved and their vibrant illustrations. Hearing students read with expression was a treat. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came to celebrate their children's learning. From Elissa

This week all the schools from the Mount Isa District participated in 'Pre-Moderation'. This is where the teachers meet in year levels with a facilitator and decide what the coming unit of work in English will look like. This is an important time for the teachers across the district to get together, to ensure that we are expecting the same level of achievement for our students. The pre-moderation is followed up later in Term 2, where we all get together again to 'moderate' the work done during the term. It is a valuable experience for a teacher, allowing collegial discussions to take place. We have been thrilled to see the progress of our Happy Valley students in their work this term. I have been around to many classes and students have enjoyed reading their stories to me. 4B also had a very successful 'Book Launch' for their Twits chapters. Many parents attended and the afternoon was well received. Well done to Miss Gavin and 4B for putting on a lovely afternoon.
