The students in Years 2-3 are currently learning about procedures and today had a speaking lesson with Mrs Suthers. In the Years 4 6 classroom, the children took ‘The Journey’ in a picture book and plotted a story graph. To find out more on what this entailed, ask your children what they experienced today. Well done to all the students who competed yesterday in our annual cross country event. The weather was mostly kind to all of them except for a little bit of humidity, which provided an extra challenge. Not only were we impressed with all of the runners but also special mention must go to our House Captains, Eloise and Karleigh who performed admirably in their first official duty as House Captains. This event also acted as a selection trial to compete at the BVSSSA Cross Country at Prenzlau SS on Thursday 1 st April. Congratulations to Kirrah and Lacey who will now be invited to represent our school in a couple of weeks’ time. Our brand new undercover area is very close to completion. There are still a few minor adjustments that need to be made before we can all start using it. Thank you to everyone for your patience and cooperation during this construction phase. We will have our first official parade in this area next Friday 19 th March and we would like to invite all the parents to join us for this occasion. Grandparents Day at Glamorgan Vale State School is such a cherished event with all members of the community looking forward to it each year. Unfortunately, due to COVID in 2020, we had to cancel it, but this year we want to make sure this tradition continues. Normally this event is to be held on the last Friday of term 1 each year, but with a lot of upcoming construction occurring around the school grounds at this time, we will need to postpone it until late next term. So although it will not be happening this term, it is still happening this year and we will let you know the new date shortly. Next Friday, everyone is encouraged to wear orange to show your support for the National Day of Action Against Bullying. The theme for this day in 2021 is Take Action Together. The theme aims to empower all young Australians to Say No to Bullying! And finally, don’t forget that school photos are on Tuesday March 23! Dear Parents and Community,

As we continue our journey to Improve Student Achievement in Writing in 2021, the students have

been excitedly busy, building their skills in English. The students in Years 2-3 are currently learning about

procedures and today had a speaking lesson with Mrs Suthers. In the Years 4 – 6 classroom, the

children took ‘The Journey’ in a picture book and plotted a story graph. To find out more on what this

entailed, ask your children what they experienced today.

Well done to all the students who competed yesterday in our annual cross country event. The weather

was mostly kind to all of them except for a little bit of humidity, which provided an extra challenge. Not

only were we impressed with all of the runners but also special mention must go to our House Captains,

Eloise and Karleigh who performed admirably in their first official duty as House Captains. This event also

acted as a selection trial to compete at the BVSSSA Cross Country at Prenzlau SS on Thursday 1st April.

Congratulations to Kirrah and Lacey who will now be invited to represent our school in a couple of weeks’

time.

Our brand new undercover area is very close to completion. There are still a few minor adjustments that

need to be made before we can all start using it. Thank you to everyone for your patience and

cooperation during this construction phase. We will have our first official parade in this area next Friday

19th March and we would like to invite all the parents to join us for this occasion.

community looking forward to it each year. Unfortunately, due to COVID in 2020, we had to cancel it, but

this year we want to make sure this tradition continues. Normally this event is to be held on the last Friday

Against Bullying. The theme for this day in 2021 is Take Action Together. The theme aims to empower

The medication must come in original packaging with a chemist label on it. The student must also have received a dose at home without ill effect prior to the school administering the medication. , , Class News A big shout out to all the families of Glamorgan Vale State School. What has been happening in

the 4-6 class you may ask? Wait for it…...we’ve been having fun. Yes, that’s right. You heard

correctly. Fun!! We got together in pairs or in groups of 3 to challenge our skills and abilities

playing games in Japanese. Educational games of course.

Last week we were also having way too much fun at first break participating in the games Mrs

Simmonds had organised for Hearing Awareness Week. We got to have a “Wet Sponge”

competition using tongs and sponges, “Egg and Spoon races” not with real eggs of course, play

“Hackie Sack” which soon transitioned into a “Juggling” competition and pulled ourselves (along

the pathway to the library) on wheelie boards to see who could fill their buckets with balls the

quickest. We only wish the activities lasted longer and were offered for another week.

Inside the classroom though, it has been a different story and a little more subdued. In English

we have been concentrating on locating the subordinate conjunctions, independent clauses, and

dependent clauses in a chapter from the novel “Forest of Silence” by Emily Rodda. In Science

we have also been focusing on animals, their habitats, how they change and adapt to their

environment and the different weather conditions such as fire, drought and flood that can have a

major impact on their survival. The students have been interpreting data and then recording the

results in different types of mathematical graphs.

We all had a great morning supporting each other at the Cross Country, cheering on our friends

and team mates. Well done to everyone on your achievements. Although we only have three

weeks left of term, and are already feeling tired, we will continue to work hard in class and as a

whole school. You can guarantee we will be busy bees right up until the Easter School Holidays.

Keep watch for what is still yet to come in the upcoming weeks. Here are a few entries from

some of our enthusiastic students in the year 4-6 class.

ENGLISH

Very soon in English we are going to write our own fantasy story or

chapter. This week we have been working on the planning stage. We have

been focusing on and learning about the features and themes of fantasy

stories. Maybe next week we will have an opportunity to begin writing our

very own.

MATH ASSESSMENT

On Wednesday Mr Coombs asked us to do a Math Assessment. A lot of year 6’s finished

early because they started before the year 5’s & 4’s.

CROSS COUNTRY

Everyone did a great job at running the Cross Country race. Team spirit and student

support was showed by all, with everyone cheering each other on. Everyone should be

very proud of their efforts and displayed our school rules of respect and responsibility

towards each other. From Hayley Bell

The cross country went great and everyone tried their best. I was

lucky to come first in the race. I was presented with a medal at

the end of the Cross Country. Congratulations to all the winners.

From Kirrah Barrie

This week at school it has been fun because we have all been

training for Cross Country. On Thursday we all did our best and did what we could to

support everyone in their house teams even if they were on the opposite team. We

helped everyone to finish and supported them throughout the race. From Zack.
