AL QODS INDSUTRIES PAVILION DESIGN FOR THE 2010 INTERBUILD EXPOSITIONSTUDIO NEGATIVE ONE, 2010

Al Qods Industries is one of Egypt’s leading producers and exporters of plumbing and sanitary fixtures.

Studio Negative One was commissioned to propose a solution for the company’s booth for the 2010 Interbuild Exposition in Cairo. The proposal was to frame the firm’s corporate identity while providing an adequate atmosphere that would invite visitors to know more about the products. The booth offers an information panel, sitting area and a small meeting room in addition to a small area for preparing drinks for visitors.

MARLY’S KITCHENSTUDIO NEGATIVE ONE, 2012WITH TAREK ABDELKAWI

On Feb 2012, a group of young Egyptian entrepreneurs approached Studio Negative One with the idea of starting a fast food franchise based in Cairo. Marly’s Kitchen is to offer healthy fresh cooked small meals and they wanted and strong character and branding that would reflect and compliment that and project the franchise character.

Studio Negative One carried all the space distribution, interior and exterior design in addition to choosing materials and preparing contraction drawings. Renderings were provided by Tarek Abdelkawi.

All designs and construction drawings were ready by March and construction started a briefly after that. By late July 2012, Marly’s Kitchen debut was up and running.

Prototyping New Cairo is an independent research and design project currently being carrier through by Studio Negative One. The project aims to study the existing condition of New Cairo, point out planning, urban and architectural points of weaknesses and propose solutions to overcome it.House 42 is concerned with the housing condition in New Cairo.

The fast and high profit gained from real-estate development has pushed the market into a state where everybody involved is an investor. The majority of housing structures in New Cairo were designed outside in. Filling the maximum foot print and floor height is the priority. Once the outer shell is set, it is just an issue of dividing the space into as much rooms as possible with no regard to order or spatial qualities. Finally, the shell is wrapped up in a cheap and fake classical casing by using a sum of the poorly manufactured and designed prefab gypsum ornaments. The final product is a an entire city of super sized and mostly vacant alien structures which can only relate to other aliens standing next to them.

Less structure more space. House 42 simply aims to take back space that is otherwise occupied by useless masses.Operating within the standard setbacks, the prototype offers a solution where by cornering and cantilevering the built masses, a different special quality can be achieved. The prototype offers a single family house with a rather large backyard for the household to enjoy all around the year. The project simply suggests another way to build a house on a 20x30 plot.
