In this project we are going to look at the comparisons between two big countries the USA and the UK, which seem to have two of the most populated (and chaotic) cities in all the world: London in the UK and New York in the USA.

We are going to look first at the USA, with it’s typical foods and it’s chaotic cities and after we are going to look at the UK with it’s different lifestyles and splendid natural parks.

GEOGRAPHY

USA (United States of America) is a constitutional republic made up of fifty states and a federal district.

This country is situated in North America where it borders with the Pacific and Atlantic ocean, with Canada to the north and with Mexico to the South.

The country owns several territories in the Caribbean Pacific.

It’s the 3° or 4° larger country in all the world because of it’s 9.83 million km2; and with over 309 million people it is the 3° most populated area.

It is one of the most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations because of the large amount of immigration from other countries.

NEW YORK

The Statue of Liberty

New York is always considered a metropolitan area. A leading global city New York extends his powerful influence over fashion and research and international affairs.Located on the Atlantic Coast of the Northeasten United States, New York is a really chaotic city with 50 completed skyscrapers taller than 656 feet. It’s symbol is naturally the Statue of Liberty (shown in the photos) that was a gift of friendship from France, which is nowadays an universal symbol of freedom, liberty and democracy. Anothrer really important building in New York is the Empire State Building, it’s name derives from New York’s nickname (Empire State), it was build in 1929 – 31, it is New York’s tallest skyscraper, and it has been for 40 years the tallest building in the hole world.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northen Island or simply UK is located off the northweastern coast of continental Europe. The UK is a group of island which lie in the North Atlantic and the North Sea.The total land area of the UK is 245,000 kilometres squared, within the islands of Great Britain.The main mountain ranges in UK are the Cumbrian Mountains, the Tess Exe line and the Pennines.

LONDON

London, the famous capital of England and of the UK, is the largest metropolitan area in the UK.London has an area of approximately 1706 km2, it’s population is about 75 569,00 ( in 2007). It’s most

famous structures are certainly the London Eye (shown in the collage), Wembley Stadium, the Palace of Westiminster, Buckingham Palace, where the Queen lives and lots of others historical or social places.

American English (AmE) is a sect of dialects of the English language used mostly in the United States.

English is the most used language in the USA thought the USA government has no official language

The use of English in America was inherited by British Colonization in the 17th century.

At the top an Hamburger, down a Hotdog with Ketchup.

TYPICAL FOOD in UK

The cuisine of USA derived from an Europe colonization (introduced by Europe) The style of cookery expanded in the 19th and 20th century. This typical food became a unique regional character across the world and the country.

The example of an American typical place to eat is MC Donalds, where people go and eat big sandwiches (like on the photo beside), it is quite cheap and workers during their work pause like to meet there and talk with a nice sandwich.

UK’s most famous dish, is surely fish and chips, a dish which is bought in many shops, a takeaway food, which consists of deep-fried fish and potatoes.

This dish has become very popular in England as it is popular in areas colonized by the British in the 19th century such as New Zeland, Canada and Australia

During evenings, at 17:30 english people always drink a cup of tea, it’s a tradition called “Tea Time”

At the breakfast all English people usually eat eggs, beans, roast beef, sausages, bacon a really energetic breakfast, wich is not very usual to Italian people.

The typical American man is friendly, competitive and

spontaneous, in a few words LOUD and optimistic.American culture has lots of traditions, ideals,

costumes, beliefs and values wich are different from theUE, the USA uses the Dollar unlike in Europe where we use the Euro, for example.

USA has a proud military tradition, unique American sports and all it’s architecture has a strong sense of national pride, the buildings they build are very high and they want to beat every record, in height etc…

It also includes some Native American (the old inhabitants of America) culture.

The United States became one of the states wich codify to it’s habitants the freedom of religion and respecting each others beliefs. Mainly USA is a Christian and Protestant country.

USA has some different nationals holidays unlike the EU like Martin Luther King Day who Americans regard as the patriarch of Civil Rights.

English Architecture, derives from Neolithic peoples, and tribes which made up lots of stone circles around England (Stonehenge). Their architecture derives from the Anglo-Saxons , in England’s churches there are many Anglo Saxon works and in some cases Roman work.

English Art is derived mostly from Renaissance Artists, for their typical landscape paintings. Hogarth developed a new type of art in England the satirical painting, which is still in use (an Anti-Pope art)

In the 2001census 37 million people professed themselves Christians, but in the 16th century with the English Reformation, most England became Anglican.

The UK normally speaks English, a language derived by Germanic languages. Since now, English has become an international language for business all around the world, and happens to be the most known language in the world before the Spanish language.Every UK region has different types of speaking English, there are lots of dialects like in Italy.

We have seen at two really stravagant and original countries, USA and UK, wich are the one similar from the other, their most important cities, wich are really getting the centre of world’s business, the culture and the typical food they eat ,London’s fish and chips and New York’s fast foods.
