PROGRAM GUIDE
JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER OF SCRANTON SEPTEMBER 2019

Dear Members,
What a wonderful summer we had at the Jewish Community Center! We welcomed over 165 campers
at JCC Camp Daleville, and over 120 golfers at our 34th Annual Eugene & Dorothy Rosenstein Memori-
al Children’s Benefit Golf Tournament which raised over $50K. Additionally, we enjoyed celebrating
Israel with the Israel Scouts Tsofim Friendship Caravan, and we installed and welcomed several new
Board members. The most exciting aspect was the development of the JCC’s new vision statement.
With the input of many stakeholders, we are proud to share with you our new vision statement:
The JCC strives to be the Jewish and greater community’s premiere center for family, health, well-ness and educational programs, encouraging family togetherness and personal growth, while build-ing community and encompassing Jewish values, Jewish/Israeli culture, celebrations and partner-ships.
Keeping our vision in mind, we recently welcomed our Pre-school students for what will be an exciting
2019-2020 program year, and we continue to grow our top notch child care programs. Also, more in-
formation will be coming soon about our year-round youth programs where we look forward to devel-
oping more cutting edge programs. Here at the JCC, there truly is something for everyone!
We have many new pool , recreation and fitness programs on the horizon including our new FloatFit
pool class, another Paint ‘N Sip program, a dance class and support group for those with Parkinson’s
disease and youth and adult dancercise classes!
As we blow the shofar and welcome Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year of 5780, we reflect on the
past year and consider how we can improve and continue to meet the needs of our community. Thank
you for being a part of our JCC family! L’Shana Tovah Tikatevu! May you be inscribed for a good year.
Shana Tovah!

CAMP DALEVILLE SUMMER 2019
CAMP DALEVILLE 2019: Another Great Camp Season in the Books!
The 2019 Camp Season was yet another great success with over 160 campers and nearly 30 brand new campers attending
this summer. The programming at camp was outstanding and the addition of STEM to the camp curriculum was very well
received by campers and counselors alike. The trips and overnights were once again amazing and Cooking, Horseback
Riding, and Tennis specialty campers had a blast. The Israeli Scouts once again entertained the campers with a day full of
activities ending with a tremendous performance. The CIT’s annual Carnival Day was a big hit also. Our Community
Shabbos Dinner was also well received as each group in camp prepared a portion of the meal and we all ate together on a
Friday afternoon.
During the last week of camp the campers competed in the Maccabiah Games, “Color War” which is full team spirit and
friendly competition. After four days of awesome competition the Blue Team won. The 2019 camp season ended with our
annual launching of “wish boats” at the lake and there were not many dry eyes that evening!
The end of camp is season is always a bitter sweet time. Camp is where new friendships begin, where old friendships never
go away and memories last forever. We hope everyone has a good school year and we look forward to seeing everyone at
Camp Daleville in 2020!

EARLY LEARNING
JCC Pre-School For children 3-5 years At the JCC Pre-School we view each child as unique, with an indi-vidual growth and developmental pattern. Different levels of ability and learning styles are expected, accept-ed and used to design age appropriate activities. Our goal is to
meet each child’s needs and stimulate learning in all developmental areas: ~ Social – give and take in a group environment ~ Intellectual – cognitive & language skills ~ Emotional – developing a positive self-image ~ Physical – large, small and perceptual mo-tor skills ~ Cultural & Educational– foster awareness & respect for all religions & for Judaism through Sabbath & holiday celebrations Our developmentally based curriculum sup-ports and encourages a young child’s natural way of learning, while fostering an under-standing of basic concepts on which future learning depends. Weekly gym classes and swimming are also part of the overall program. Our Pre-School Assets A developmentally based, two-year, multi-age pre-school program which is play centered. Play is considered to be a central focus in the development of young children. College-educated, experi-enced early childhood educators who love children, their warm concern will come through as they provide feedback about your child’s progress.
