OBJECTIVES

SCOPE

STATES OF MEXICO THAT WILL HOST PARTICIPANTS IN 2019

The selected students will stay in Mexico for five weeks during the summer of 2019 (from July 8th to August 10th of 2019). The arrival and departure will be to and from Mexico City, where the cultural and touristic program will take place, followed by a four week stay at communities of six States of Mexico with an ample experience in immigration with the United States, during which the students will take part on volunteer work, as well as education, cultural, environmental and sporting activities.

To offer an experience of cultural immersion in Mexico, which would allow the Mexican-American students strengthen their ties to the country and encourage cultural bonds, as well as facilitate a job opportunity through the modality of volunteer work that supports, preferably, the communities of origin of Mexican immigrants.

ACTIVITIES TO DEVELOP

ECONOMIC AID AND BENEFITS

Students of Mexican origin (children and grandchildren of Mexican Nationals) that are at least 18 years old at the time of the publication of this call, preferably under the age of 30 years old.

Students of any academic field of universities and community colleges in California that currently have good academic standing, as well as recently graduated professionals (Class of 2019).

Good ability to establish personal relations.Systematic and organizational skills.

Educational activities in national and regional history, as well as language workshops, in case of being necessary or requested.

Cultural immersion in artistic traditions; workshops with craftsmen; cultural corridors; environmental awareness in protected natural zones; sports development; and visits to museums and archaeological sites.

Community volunteer work; collaboration with cooperatives; visit to micro businesses; and support to the activities of the social economy in these States of Mexico.

During some of the weekends there will be visits to archaeological sites, indigenous communities, natural protected zones and museums.

The convening institutions will provide the necessary support for the successful completion of the program:

• Lodging at their arrival to Mexico City.• Local transportation in Mexico City.• Lodging at the capitals of the States included in the program.

REQUIREMENTS THAT THE CANDIDATES MUST PRESENT

UNIVERSITY

• Room and board in the communities in which the students will dovolunteering work.

• Travel medical insurance with personal accidents coverage.• Certificate of participation issued by the SRE.• Economic aid for the purchase of air transportation for the participants

that require so.

The departments of community affairs of the consulates of Mexico in California will permanently offer, permanently, orientation and will channel the consultations and doubts to the IME regarding this program during its process of preparation.

Submit the following documents in the department of community affairs of the consulate of Mexico in California that coincides with the address of the candidate: Calexico, Santa Ana, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Oxnard, Fresno, San José, San Francisco y Sacramento. The documentation can be handed in or sent by email:

SELECTION PROCEDURE

PROGRAM DERIVABLES

Considering the merits of each candidate, a maximum of 200 participants will be selected to travel to Mexico. In each of the ten consulates of Mexico in California a selection committee will be established with the participation of education institutions, which will send to the IME the proposal of approved applicants for the final decision to be made by the convening institutions.

The consulates will start receiving applications starting on April 25th of 2019 and the reception of applications will close on May 31st 2019, at 3:00 pm local time of each consulate.

The list of selected candidates will be published on Jun 5th, through the IME website and at the departments of community affairs of the consulates of Mexico in California. A Letter of Acceptance will be provided to each selected participant.

The detailed program of activities to be carried out by the participants will be published on June 20th. The arrival to Mexico City in order to start the activities must be no later than the morning of July 8th 2019.

Each participant will prepare a personalized report of his or her experience in the program of Cultural immersion and volunteering, in which could be included a concrete proposal to strengthen the community development, a business plan for the advancement of products of the area of migrant origin and initiatives to strengthen the ties with the migrant communities. (The report may include videos, interviews and/or photographic gallery).

The first draft of the report will be prepared on the last week of the stay of the volunteering phase, and will be presented at the Closing event of the program on August 9th at the facilities of Los Pinos in Mexico City. The final version of the report must be handed in to the department of community affairs of the consulate that coincides with the address of the participant on August 30th to the latest.
