There are a few time slots that need to be filled. See Page 3 for availability. The Corpus Christi Caller-Times each week features a column on South Texas history by Murphy Givens. These articles on people, places and events of years gone by are eagerly awaited each Wednesday. Columns III is the third compilation of such articles, with columns from 2014 and 2015 included in this volume. They tell of adventurers, outlaws, settlers, cowboys, ranchers and pioneers who came to the Coastal Bend of Texas, struggling against nature and their fellow man to make their homes and livelihoods. This collection of 102 newspaper columns includes 164 photographs and maps, source notes and a full index. Fellow Rotarian Jim Moloney will join Murphy Givens during our luncheon program presentation. They will also be available to sign copies of Columns III. Did You Know?

Kallia Shook

I am the CFO for CC Distributors,

a distribution company that has

been serving South Texas for over

110 years. Our company has a

strong business history and a close

knit group of wonderful employees

which are two qualities I really

appreciate. When not at work I

enjoy spending time with family,

friends and my three pups. I also

really enjoy volunteering and

participating in different charity

groups. I am very active with

Paws and Claws, an auxiliary for

the Gulf Coast Humane Society

and other animal rescue groups in

our community. Something people

would probably not know about me

is that I like to remodel houses, I

enjoy looking at an old house and

thinking about the possibilities of

what it could become. I have only

gutted one house so far but am

currently on my second and third

projects and am looking forward

to the challenge. The most

satisfying benefit from being a

Rotarian is definitely being able to

provide service to others and

meeting other individuals who

enjoy and appreciate this as

well. I have greatly enjoyed my

last year and a half with the

Rotary family and am looking

forward to many more. I love

laughing and enjoying life so one

of my favorite quotes to

remember and keep with me is

one by Thich Nhat Hanh-

"Sometimes your joy is the

source of your smile, but

sometimes your smile can be the

source of your joy.
