INTRODUCTION

This report contains the results of the data collected relating to Lhe number, size and food compositi.on of larval and juvenile fish caught in the surface waters of the Strait of Georgia with a 6-foot Isaacs-Kidd midwater trawl during the period April 25-29, 1966. The trawl was constructed of 1/8 inch mesh knotless nylon netting and was towed clear of the vessel's wake at 6 knots, with the headline just breaking the surface of the water .

This report is the second in a series of data reports concerning larval fish caught by surface trawls and other gear in .the Strait of Georgia during 1966.

Measurements of larval fish and invertebrates

The length of all fish was taken from the anterior part of the snout or upper lip to the end of the central rays of the caudal fin . This measurement is referred to as the fork length .

For the length of copepods only the globular anterior portion of the body or metasome length was measured . Total length was taken of all other invertebrates found in the stomachs of larval and juvenile fish.
