Intel International Science and Engineering Fair
• A global celebration of scientific excellence
• World’s largest pre-college science competition
• 1,500 students participate annually from more than 50 countries, regions, and territories

The Path to Intel ISEF
Affiliated Science Fairs
•Before competing at Intel ISEF, students must compete in an Intel ISEF-affiliated science fair.
•Approximately 550 regional and state fairs from the US and around the world affiliate with the Intel ISEF each year.

The Path to Intel ISEFAffiliated Science Fairs
• Students who win at the high school or local level, can then compete in a regional or state fair.
• Students who win at the regional or state level, may be eligible to compete at the Intel ISEF. Each affiliated fair can send up to two individual finalists and one team consisting of up to three members to represent them at the Intel ISEF.

Intel ISEF at a glance
•Finalists come from a field of more than 65,000 students who participated in more than 500 regional Intel ISEF-affiliated science fairs around the world
•In 2007, more than 20 percent of the young scientists competing at Intel ISEF either had or had applied for a patent for their work
•More than 1,200 science, engineering, and industry professionals volunteer to travel to Intel ISEF to judge the projects and determine the winners
•About 100 people from the Atlanta area will serve as interpreters

Examples of 2007 Ed Academy Action Plans• Brazil
– The Liberato Foundation school delivered 6 scientific methodology courses to 544 teachers and 300 students interested in achievement of projects and science fairs in Brazil
•Costa Rica– Training for all 20 MoE Regions was completed on the Intel sponsored SW program to
systematize the science fair program data nation wide.
•Massachusetts– Partnered with an institution of higher education to offer graduate level credit for the
project-based learning course developed by the 2005 Ed Academy team.
•Philippines– Regional coordinators worked to encourage non-participating high schools to join the
competition.
•Saudi Arabia– Defined & Localized a package of training curriculum to encourage science research.
Curriculum for both students and teachers was developed
•Taiwan– 500 Educators participated in a science fair forum.
•Utah– Created a website with project tools and examples of secondary science projects.
