PROGRESS REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH 2017 मखु्य घटनायें (MAIN EVENTS )
Preliminary arrangements have been initiated for conducting the 6
th All India Technical Seminar in
Hindi (Rajbhasha) at Thiruvananthapuram as per the instruction of HQ, New Delhi.
World Meteorological Day was celebrated at RMC Chennai on 23 March 2017 with scientific
temper and gaiety. The theme for the celebration was “Understanding clouds”. Three invited talks
on subjects related to the theme of WMO day 2017 was delivered by experts. WMO Day was also
observed in Meteorological Centres, Bangalore,Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram by conducting
Open House and Exhibition.
A spatial map of realized 24 hour rainfall over Kerala state has been hosted in the website
(http://imdtvm.gov.in) on daily basis. Archived images are also available in the website.
Bio-Metric attendance system was installed at AMO Chennai on 07.03.17.

A Workshop on “Extreme Weather Events” was organized by IMS Hyderabad Chapter & Telangana
State Development Planning Society on 22nd
March 2017 at Dr.MCR HRD Institute , Hyderabad
where in 200 participants from Telangana Govt/ Universities/NGO with expertise in diverse fields
participated. Scientists of MC Hyderabad took active part in the workshop.
Shri. P.S. Kannan Sc „D‟/Director attended National Workshop on Water/Waste Water Sustainable
Management conducted by CSIR/NEERI Chennai during 27/28.03.2017.

Met A, MC Thiruvananthapuram attended a training workshop on “Pre monsoon Convective
Weather System” held at HQ, New Delhi from 01.03.2017 to 04.03.2017.
RMC Chennai, granted permission to four M.Sc. students of M.M. N.S.S. College, Kollam, to do
project on “Climate Change Study over Kerala under the guidance of Sh. S. Sudevan, Sc. E &
Director, Dr. V.K. Mini, Sc. D, Sh. N. T. Niyas, Sc.D, Sh. Arun Kumar V. H., Sc B.

days International Seminar on “Water Management – Combating Climate uncertainties, held on
22.03.17 and 23.03.2017 on account of World Water Conservation Day and World Meteorological
Day at the Conference Hall of Hotel Appolo Dimoro, Thiruvananthapuram.
Shri.P.S. Biju, Scientist “D” , RMC Chennai wrote an article on “Understanding of Clouds” which
was published in editorial page of Madhyaman, Malayalam Daily on 23.03.17 (WMO Day).

र्क्रिात रे्तािनी अनुसंधान केन्द्र (CWRC)
1. Weather Research and Forecasting) model is being run in HPC on daily basis and output
products are uploaded in RMC Chennai website. Validation of products is being carried out.
2. Updating of eAtlas software with 2016 data is in progress.
eAtlas usage: Number of new registrations during the month : 40
3. Updating of TCRAIN software with 2016 data is in progress.
4. New exhibits were prepared for the World Meteorological Day exhibition held on 23.03.17.
5. One M.Sc student completed her project on „Spatial Rainfall Interpolation using
Mathematical Methods”during the month.
6. TCWIND software development is in progress.
7. CWRC officials are involved in ACWC work also.
हहन्द्दी और कल्याण अनुभाग (HINDI/ WELFARE SECTIONS )
The preliminary arrangements have been initiated for conducting an All India Seminar on Official Language,
Hindi at Thiruvananthapuram as per the instruction of HQ, New Delhi. A Circular was issued to all outstations
/DWRs , inviting nominations with the abstract of their articles. Three officials from RC Chennai and one each
from MC Bangalore and CWC Visakhapatnam gave their nominations.
A Hindi workshop on “noting and drafting” was conducted on 20.03.2017 at MC Hyderabad. Shri
Shivanand Kalekar, Hindi Lecturer, Dept of Official Language, Hyderabad gave lecture and practice
to the staff members.
Hindi workshop was conducted on 22.03.17 at RMC Chennai . DDGM,Sh.S.B. Thampi, delivered the
inaugural address. A Special lecture was given on Hindi “ Parangath” ( Hindi advance course) on how to write
drafts and notes in Hindi by Shri.P. Vasudevan, Hindi Officer from Accountant General Office, Chennai.
About 25 staff members participated in the workshop.

UDC from MC Hyderabad attended Hindi Computer Training at CGO Complex, Kavadiguda,

An algorithm to de-alias velocity folding occurring in DWR products during cyclones . An algorithm for estimation of Surface wind speed of Cyclones using DWR .
