Best Practices of Modern Law College
First Best Practice:
1. Title of the Practice:
VASUNDHARA MOVEMENT: for the earth and earthlings...
2. Goal
To create awareness, education and implementation of the Environment protection.
Social activities for betterment of Pune city and State of Maharashtra.
3. The Context
The college is committed towards
“To create multidisciplinary best citizens
to suit the local, national and international needs,
having legal temperament, moral, ethical values and
multifaceted proactive personality,
by providing excellent education”.
For inculcating staff and students with local, national and international needs having
legal temperament, moral value and multifaceted personality the present movement has
become necessary. Under this movement, we engrain environmental and social ethical
values in the staff and students through various activities.
4. The Practice
We appeal and encourage our students that wherever possible use the public transport
and on that behalf, we take the Government’s help in giving concessions for public
transport to our students as far as possible.
Every year on one day everyone in the college including the Principal, staff and students
make sure and actively participate in “No Vehicle Day” where the entire college takes up
the public transport.
Plastic free city is one of the activities wherein our students of Vasundhara Movement
along with NSS unit and clean the campus of all the plastic and plastic products and also
spread the awareness of the dangers of the plastic.
Pune city is blessed with Mula-Mutha river but lately it is polluted to great extent. The
volunteers of Vasundhara Movement, along with NSS unit takeb the initiative to clean
this river under the ‘River Cleanliness Program’.
All the staff and the students take actively part in the College Cleanliness Drive every
year.
In the Inter-Collegiate Street play Competition “Duff Karandak” a street play
competition organized by the college, the participants are given a plant sapling and they
are requested to plant at their places and nurture them.
The college organizes a donation drive and encourages all the students and the staff to
donate the clothes, books and utensil, and hand over these articles to the NGOs like
Saraswati Balshikshan Sanstha, Maher, Plavi, etc.
National Level and State Level Seminars & Competitions for Environmental
concerns.

Last 3 Years
Faculty Publication
The faculty members are encouraged to publish actively in various International,
National, State Level Seminars in the area of Environmental Laws and related inter-
disciplinary areas. Every year the Library Committee collects all the publication and
compiles the same. One of our faculties is pursuing her PhD in Environmental Law and
our Principal has Ph.D in environmental Law.
5. Evidence of Success
The college has contributed three research projects to Janwani an organization closely
working with the Pune Municipal Corporation in the areas of Road Signages, Solid
Waste Management, and conservation of heritage structures. By these contributions we
have positively impacted Pune Traffic situations, Solid waste management in Pune
Municipal Corporation certificates have been issued by the authorities.
The College has received Clean Campus Award twice from our parent organization at the
“Kanitkar Day” Celebration of our society which falls on 25th of January every year. It is
to honour the founder of the parent society.
Our faculty was invited by MIA (Maharashtra Intelligence Academy) to deliver lectures
on safety, traffic rules, and environmental laws.
One of the College faculty members, Asst. Prof. Abhijeet Dhere has received “Award of
Special Appreciation” from Savitribai Phule Pune University in the year 2014-15, as
contribution for the work in the Environmental and Social activities.
Certificates of appreciation have been issued by the orphanages that have received
donations from the movement.
6. Problems Encountered and Resources Required
Due to tight schedule of academics, semester exams and other activities year round does
not allow ample time to conduct extensive activities. It would be very good if we could
take more time for these activities.
The sheer magnanimity of activities to be conducted to make a real impact in the society
is a very herculean task. Whenever any cleanliness activity is conducted within or out of
campus the effect of our cleanliness wears out within a couple of days.
Modern Law College, Pune-16 AQAR 2016-17 Page 37
We need more organizations such as Janwani supported by MCCIA (Mahratta Chamber
of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture) for development of Research for better
Administration to conduct environmental activities along with students. The staff and
students of the college are enthusiastic to contribute for the environmental and social
causes however; there is a dearth of NGOs or the local authorities coming forward in
support.
Second Best Practice:
1. Title of the Practice
Per- Meditatus:Well Groomed
Per- Meditatus is a skill development programme to equip our students to be competent
in their professional and daily walk.
2. Goal
The students of Law College are in the profession of communication, presentation and
proficiency in use of technology where technology is necessary. It is necessary to groom
the students in personality development, presentation skills, using of technology and
drafting skills.
Career Guidance Programmes
Moot Court Guidance Programmes.
Competitive Exams guidance and counseling.
Use of ICT Technology in Learning
Use of Google App and other tools for Research
Use of N-List for the better Research.
3. The Context
This programme is designed to ensure that the students are groomed in presentation
skills, research acumen, drafting proficiency and use of technology during their career in
society. The students from Law College usually opt for Court Practice and some may
even opt for jobs in various fields. This programme ensures soft-skill development which
can prove useful in any field.
4. The Practice
We inculcate the professional skills from the first year of the law course. Along with the
regular students we concentrate more on the students from vernacular medium and put in
extra efforts by giving them extra lectures on soft skills, computer literacy, and
Personality development sessions.
University Sponsored Lectures: Every year under Students’ Welfare Scheme of the
Savitribai Phule Pune University we conduct guest lectures on personality development,
soft skillsand computer skills.
Court Visits: Every year the College conducts a High Court visit to make the students
witness the working of the High Courts. Students are also encouraged to go for a case
follow up and attend every stage of the case in the Shivajinagar District Court.
Moot Court Competitions: The staff members encourage and guide the students for
various Moot Court competitions.
Competitive Exam Guidance: the College has an MOU with ‘Spectrum Academy’, a
competitive exam center from where one faculty every month is deputed to guide our
students.
Modern Law College, Pune-16 AQAR 2016-17 Page 38
Self Defense skills for Girls: We along with ‘Nejad’ specialist in Martial Arts and self
defence time and again come and take seminars and guide our girl students on self-
defence and personality development.
5. Evidence of Success
Our alumni as well as the present students have come up and have given the feedback
that this skill development programmes under Per-Meditatus and guidance lectures are
very helpful in their careers. We evaluate the success of this programme by the way of
feedbacks from the alumni, and the regular students.
Few of our Students have cleared the competitive exams like JMFC, NET and SET.
Some of the students have appeared for entrance exams of National Law Schools and
cleared due to this programme.
6. Problems Encountered and Resources Required
The College has majority of the incumbent students from rural and vernacular strata,
many of them do not spare adequate time for his activity as this activity is over and
above their regular academic workload.
Some of the students do not complete the entre training programme and fail to finish the
session.
Space constraint is a Practical Problem we are facing.
