PROGRESSIVE MARTIAL ARTS JUNE 2017 SIFU’S CORNER Here we are finding ourselves mid-way into 2017. Have you accomplished those goals you set in place at the beginning of the year or are you on your way towards accomplishing those goals? Are you stuck and not able to get started? Now is the time to re-evaluate where you are and take some time to reset yourself. If you are already headed towards some of your goals, sit down and write down the action items needed to get what you need done for the end of the year. Let’s get it done! May went by like a blur. I started off the month by going to Greece for my annual seminar with PMA Hellas. It is always a pleasure to bring martial arts to our affiliate school in Athens. And I love meeting new students as well as seeing those that I have been teaching over the last 10 years. Prior to that, I was saddened by the passing of one of my instructors, Pamana Tuhon Christopher Sayoc, Sr. He has had a great influence not only on my martial arts development but on my life, in general and so his passing was deeply difficult for me. I was surrounded by my fellow Sayoc tribe and we are committed to spreading the mission he set out a long time ago. He will always be in my heart and I am thankful for all that he has taught me. His legacy will endure forever. We were also able to host Ajarn Surachai Sirisute for a 2 day seminar in Muay Thai in May. It was great to have him once again since we haven’t hosted him in more than 2 years. I’m sure those who attended learned a lot and enjoyed their time with this master instructor. Thanks to all the students who attended. As June approaches, we have some special events. Firstly, we will be hosting a Dad’s Punch and Lunch to celebrate Father’s Day. We will also be hosting some End of the School Year parties for the youth students to celebrate the end of a school year and the start of the summer. Please look inside for the exciting summer events at the school and the UPDATED ADULT SCHEDULE, which will take effect June 19th. Summer is not the time to stop training, rather it’s important that you maintain your routine and be disciplined about your training. We look forward to having the best summer yet at PMA! REVIEW OF AJARN CHAI THAI BOXING SEMINAR On May 20 and 21st, we hosted Ajarn Surachai Sirisute for a 2 day seminar in the art of Muay Thai. Having not hosted him for over 2 years, this was really special and we are so happy that many of the PMA Muay Thai students were able to attend. He is a meticulous teacher and all those who attended definitely got better in form and function. There is nothing like being taught by a martial arts legend like Ajarn Chai. Thanks to all who came out to train and support the seminar!

During June, every check-in at PMA will help provide a pair of shoes to someone in need. We’re w o r k i n g w i t h C a u s e l y a n d Soles4Souls to make it happen. You can add #shoes4kids when you check in. For more information about this month’s charity, check out www.soles4soulsi.org.

TRIBUTE TO PAMANA TUHON CHRISTOPHER SAYOC, SR “Shortly after my father passed away, I began my

training under Pamana Tuhon Chris Sayoc. At the time, I didn't realize that he would fill that void, guiding me like a father would his son.

He believed in me more than I believed in myself. He instilled in me the mindset to exceed even my own expectations of what was possible. I've been able to rise above challenges through his guidance and with the tools he has given me.

He taught me to become a better teacher, leader, business man, husband, father and friend. He showed me the value of being a part of something greater. A tribe, that when synced, can accomplish the impossible.

The man I've become today, I owe to him. I'm forever grateful for the time I've had with him. I will honor his legacy through deeds to continue his mission for generations to come.

“Rest In Power Tuhon. I can hear you and you will live forever in my heart and mind. One love. One tribe.” - Guro Nick Sacoulas
