AN OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE HENDERSONVILLE ALUMNI CHAPTER OCTOBER VOL. 3 ISSUE 1

As Polemarch of The Hendersonville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. I welcome you to another exciting fraternal year. It is our hope that you find our Chapter to be extremely involved in serving Sumner County (Hendersonville) and the Greater Nashville Community. Our chapter is built on the Foundation of Fellowship, Community Service, and Chapter Involvement. As we progress into 100 years of Achievement, we invite you to celebrate and fellowship with us.

The H’ville’s Kappa spotlight is the executive leadership of the Hendersonville Alumni Chapter. As we head into our Centennial Year, it is important to have leadership with vision. It is my pleasure and honor to salute Polemarch Ramsey James, Vice-Polemarch Larry Whaley, Keeper of Exchequer Deandre Thomas and Keeper of Records Almichael Rodgers as they continue to pursue Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor.

Passing the Torch - Past Polemarch's Perspective

The phrase “Passing the Torch” has been around for several decades, especially as it relates to the Olympics. The Olympic Torch today is ignited several months before the opening celebration of the Olympic Games. The final carrier is often unannounced until the last moment. The final bearer of the torch runs towards the cauldron, often placed at the top of the grand staircase, and then uses the torch to start the flame in the stadium signifying the start of the games. Likewise, future aspiring Polemarchs need to be in training now, preparing themselves to be a torch bearer one day. Long before their administration takes the oath there must be a fire of Phi Nu Pi that burns deeply within. When you pass the torch to someone, you pass on tradition and responsibility. I thank those Chapter Polemarchs who came before me and allowed me the opportunity to be a torch bearer. I thank those Brothers for all their support, along with community sponsors that allowed the Hendersonville Alumni Chapter to flourish to new heights. Being recognized as Chapter of the Year within the South Central Province for the past 4 years speaks of the dedication and commitment to Achievement this Chapter upholds. To the new torch bearer, Polemarch Ramsey James, continue to hold the torch high and carry it as far as you can, while staying faithful to the mission placed before you. In the same way, the Olympics bring people from all walks of life together, let us continue to nurture our “Bond of Fraternity” into the ultimate form of unity. As we approach the Centennial Celebration of our Great Fraternity, let us reflect on our accomplishments, while never “Resting on the Shield”. Our Founders would want us to press on and keep the good fight until we all reach that grand stage at the golden shore.

The Hendersonville Alumni Chapter’s goal is to have a significant impact in the Sumner County community and the greater Middle Tennessee area. Our 13th annual Thanksgiving Baskets Drive was a huge success as we were able to feed 100 deserving families. Our partnership with the Mid-Cumberland Agency and AWG has been a staple in the community. Shaun Knox, expressed his gratitude for all the financial contributions and support for this noble cause during these tough economic times.

Guide Right

A positive force in the community...

Guide Right is a program for the educational and occupational guidance of youth, primarily inspirational and informational in character. Its reach extends to high schools and colleges alike.

Conceived in 1922 by Leon W. Stewart, and suggested at the twelfth Grand Chapter Conclave, Guide Right became the Fraternity's National Service Program.

Brothers:

I regretfully inform you of the passing of Elder Watson Diggs Awardee Keflyn X. Reed. Brother Reed joined the Chapter Invisible this morning after battling illness. Some of you may know that Just a few weeks ago, he celebrated his 50th Birthday. I spoke with him at the time and found his enthusiasm surrounding this milestone more noticeable than normal from Keflyn. In hindsight, I believe he knew that it could likely be his last.

Keflyn has Achieved on all levels of our fraternity’s structure. He is one of the few Brothers who have been awarded both the Guy L. Grant and EWD awards. Under Brother Reed’s leadership, The Journal has blossomed. The content and format have stood out and made our formal publication one of the best in not just the Greek World, but throughout the Association Industry. In fact, during his tenure we received several honors from the CFEA, the entity that rates Greek publications. His loss will be felt.

I know you join me in wishing his family the very best and you most sincere condolences during these challenging times. Details will be provided when they are available. God Bless our Brother, Dr. Keflyn X. Reed.

Thanks. OneKAPPA!
