Needs Assessment Plan The above survey will be utilized to collect data from students regarding their
knowledge of technology tools when entering the course. It will be distributed before the
semester/course begins, via email to all students enrolled in the course. Students will be
given a deadline for returning the assessment so that the instructor has adequate time
to make needed changes.
If students identify themselves as being rather proficient in some of the areas,
their assignments will be slightly adjusted to accommodate. This group will work with
more advanced features of the tools, while still developing their skills in the same areas.
If all or most of the students rate these areas high on the Likert scale, then major
changes will need to be made to accommodate the learners and make the class
worthwhile for the students.
8
Learner Analysis Plan
Along with the needs assessment, students will fill out a learner analysis plan. It
will allow the instructor to ensure that all students are accommodated and that activities
and assignments are designed for the specific group. The plan will focus on technology
skills and the students’ experience working with different tools. They will be asked to
describe their experience with online courses and digital learning environments.
Students will also take a short survey to identify their learning style and cognitive
thinking level and will report their results back. This information will assist the instructor
in meeting the needs of all of the learners.
