Library Services requested electrical improvements for the atrium space and one classroom at 117 Lake Street Library. The project consisted of replacing the existing floor in the atrium, that once was a fountain, and providing electrical outlets for general use. Perimeter wiremold electrical and data outlets were installed to Classroom 112. The gravel opening underneath the staircase was in-filled as part of the scope of work. New lounge furniture was provided for by the requesting Department.

This project in the Trustee Meeting Room entailed historial reconstruction of cast stone and plaster elements. A conservator was partnered with a restoration contractor to properly treat the original features of this room where plaster was originally used to create a detailed wood appearance.

Flanagan House Living Room, used by the Philosophy Department as a visiting scholars residence and as a meeting/function room, needed to have light fixtures installed on the walls and ceiling to adequately light surfaces for weekly meetings. Before the upgrade, the room was to dark and un-inviting. Project included painted walls, trim and new furniture purchased (by requesting dept.) to seat 10-12 people and arranged with both living and meetings in mind.

Student Lounge Upgrades

CPM Redesigned the Graduate Student Lounge in Fulton Hall for GCSOM, rooms 124, 124A & B to be more functional and aesthetically pleasing. Included in the renovation was the addition of one private meeting space with access or the main corridor, an enlarged Kitchen space with full size refrigerator and microwave. We also opened up the general space to make it more conducive to socializing and or quiet study area with a large monitor on the wall. To accomplish this we introduced smaller square tables with four chairs for each with no arms that would be extremely flexible to reconfigure, we purposely eliminated sofas and soft seating to encourage integration. We also designed a more applicable storage closet for their variety of needs.

The Biology Department submitted A&R 2733112 for new Biology faculty hire, Dr. Tim van Opijnen. The scope of work to accommodate Professor van Opijnen is for the accommodation of a new chemical storage room replacing an existing dark room, and removal of a sink in Lab 400. Associated with this A&R is also the elimination of the wall between labs 400 and 410, creating one large sized lab to which individual bench space can be assigned to a PI, consistent with one of the goals identified in the Master Plan. Work will also include providing a new lab bench and other changes needed as a result of eliminating the wall between the two labs. Work in Bio-informatics space 420 is limited to adding a door with a sidelight, and providing new open shelving in lieu of cabinets.

Capital Projects Management created a separate report writing room for the BCPD in their Maloney Hall suite. The report room had been sharing space with the new Dispatch manager’s office in 112A Maloney. We relocated computers to new report room 106 which formally housed the lockers for security staff of which we relocated the lockers to the locker rooms 126B and 130A. We extended the report room 106 by opening up existing corridor wall and adding a door to the back corridor and putting one way glass on the door from the kitchen, gaining needed space.

The existing vending machines structure was removed and the vending machines were relocated to a nearby corridor. Due to the increased student population of undergraduates majoring in Chemistry, the Chemistry Department renovated three general purpose undergraduate teaching labs (Labs 113, 116 and 120) to increase the student count of their current labs of 18 students per lab to possibly 22 stations per lab. The labs were updated to provide a more functional layout for their teaching, in keeping with today’s standards for instruction, allowing for clear sight lines, better student and instructor focus, and open circulation. In addition, all support rooms associated with these labs were renovated and reconfigured as required.

As part of larger infrastructure improvements to Rubenstein Hall to provide fire protection and upgrading the fire alarm system, a component project was the creation of new lounge space for the building’s community. Consistent with other similar lounge renovations that have occurred in previous summers, the Rubenstein Lounge is made up of three spaces: social, study and spiritual. The scope of work included a new entrance and modest ADA improvements, as well as interfacing with adjacent administrative space.

CPM facilitated a plan that helped the Career Center re-shuffle staff, graduate students and work studies within the basement of Southwell Hall and the first floor. This required furniture/staff relocation and evaluation of power and data. We cleaned & painted the entire interior of the basement and first floor. We also replaced the carpet on the first floor.

Adjunct Faculty Office Renovation

Student Affairs requested the creation of 20 new freshman quads with the conversion of existing triples with bathrooms, by eliminating the bathrooms and adding the fourth bed to each room. The work was completed in five residence halls on Upper Campus: Cheverus, Fitzpatrick, Gonzaga, Loyola, and Xavier. The scope of work included removing all plumbing fixtures, ceramic tiles, etc, and creating a new layout to accommodate four beds, along with associated other res life furnishings.
