The Foundation High School Program with endorsements is a flexible high school graduation program that allows students to pursue their interests.
■ 22-credit Foundation Plan
- the core of the Texas high school diploma program
■ Endorsements
- options that allow students to focus on a related series of courses based on their interests
- earned by completing the requirements for the Foundation Plan and for the
endorsement, including a fourth credit of math, a fourth credit of science, and two
additional credits in the endorsement area
■ Enhancements
- awarded to students for outstanding performance
Distinguished Level of Achievement
- notes completion of more advanced academic courses and an endorsement
Performance Acknowledgment
- notes outstanding achievement in specific areas

Record your four-year plan.
Students must develop a four-year graduation plan that will include all
required courses for the Foundation Plan and a coherent sequence of
courses that will earn them an endorsement.
What is an endorsement?
Endorsements are acknowledgements students receive
for completing a series of courses in an endorsement area.
Endorsement areas are made up of a series of related courses that are grouped together by interest or skills. Each endorsement area will provide students with in-depth knowledge of a subject area.
Students earn an endorsement by completing requirements for the Foundation Plan and
- completing the curriculum requirements for the endorsement,
- earning a 4th credit of math and a 4th credit of science, and
- earing 2 additional elective credits.
What is an endorsement?
New Braunfels ISD offers courses in five endorsement areas:
– Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)
– Business and Industry
– Arts and Humanities
– Public Services
– Multidisciplinary

Each endorsement area has courses categorized
into career clusters or special areas of interest.
Use the Program of Study worksheets found in the NBISD Course Catalog to help build a plan for a coherent sequence of courses in an endorsement area.
CTE endorsement requirements have a checklist of rules.

STEM
Advanced Mathematics
(requires 5 math credits including Algebra II and two that require Algebra II as a prerequisite)
Advanced Science
(requires 5 science credits including chemistry, physics, and two additional science)
Focus in CTE Engineering
(coherent sequence of four CTE credits and at least one advanced CTE, the final CTE course relating to STEM )

MULTIDISCIPLINARY Advanced Courses
(complete four advanced courses from one or more endorsement areas)

(earn four credits in each of the foundation subject areas including English IV and chemistry and/or physics)
Advanced Placement (AP) or Dual Credit
(earn four credits from AP or dual credit English, math, science, social studies, economics LOTE, or fine arts)
- Complete courses as
required
Students must submit a four-year plan and an Endorsement Declaration.
Four-year Plan and Endorsement Declaration
A printout of a student’s four-year plan and an Endorsement Declaration form will be provided to students and their parents or guardians for review.
Students’ four-year plans and an Endorsement Declaration must be signed by students and parents or guardians and returned to counselors by December 2, 2016.
Four-year plans must be entered into Career Cruising by January 27, 2017.
Mark all changes to
course selections by
drawing a line
through the course
you wish to change
and writing in your
new course
selection.
Make edits to your four-year plan (Career Portfolio).
Add parent or guardian
signature and student
signature.
Record your
endorsement
selection(s) on the
bottom of the Career
Portfolio.
Sign and return your four-year plan (Career Portfolio).
Return to your World or
Human Geography
teacher by December 2.
Complete the student information on the Endorsement Declaration.
Mark your endorsement and career cluster or special area of interest.
Add parent or guardian signature and student signature.
Complete the Endorsement Declaration.
Return with your four-
year plan to your
World or Human
Geography teacher by
December 2.
Return your signed four-year plan and Endorsement declaration to your World or Human Geography teacher.
Return your four-year plan (Career Portfolio) and your
Endorsement Declaration as soon as possible.
All forms are due back by December 2.
If you are changing any courses on your four-year plan or your
endorsement, you must schedule an appointment to meet
with the CTE counselor.

Parents are welcome to schedule a time to visit with the
counselor.
Schedule an appointment with the counselor to review any changes to your four-year plan or endorsement area.
In addition to planning for an endorsement, plan to earn recognition for your achievements.
Distinguished Level of Achievement
To earn Distinguished Level of Achievement, a student must meet the
Foundation Program requirements and
- earn a total of 4 credits in math including Algebra II,
- earn a total of 4 credits in science, and
- successfully complete at least one endorsement.
In addition to planning for an endorsement, plan to earn recognition for your achievements.
Distinguished Level of Achievement
— better preparation for college-level coursework (community and technical colleges and universities)
— more college and university options
— more financial aid options
— an improved likelihood for enrollment into college classes related to the
chosen field of study
— required for students competing for Top 10% automatic admissions at any
Texas public school university
In addition to planning for an endorsement,
plan to earn recognition for your achievements.
Performance Acknowledgments
A student may earn Performance Acknowledgements for outstanding
performance:
— in a dual credit course
— in bilingualism and biliteracy
— on the PSAT, ACT-Plan, SAT, or ACT
— on an Advanced Placement (AP) exam
A student may also earn a Performance Acknowledgment for earning a
nationally or internationally recognized business or industry certification or
license.
As a final check of your four-year plan, ask yourself if you have all of the courses needed to:
- meet Foundation Graduation Plan requirements,
- to earn at least one endorsement,
- and to earn a Distinguished Level of Achievement?
Contact your campus CTE counselor if you need any assistance with your four-year plan.
Remember that changes made to course selections could affect eligibility
for an endorsement or for meeting the requirements of Distinguished Level
of Achievement.
- If in doubt, contact your counselor.
- Do not make changes in Career Cruising without contacting your
counselor.
- Students may change their endorsement selection but should do
so only under advisement from their counselor.
