Nalanda is part of the periods of Lord Mahavira and Lord Buddha

It is also reputed for being the birthplace of Sariputra, a
close follower of Lord Buddha.
The city has been a major center for Buddhism as well because of

Buddha is believed to have visited Nalanda several times.
