Leading Care Project - AimSupport and strengthen the role of Ward Sisters/Charge Nurses so that the post holders are enabled to:•Ensure the delivery of safe and effective care•Promote the development of a person-centred culture•Improve and enhance the patient and client experience•Manage and develop the performance of their team •Participate in the delivery of the organisation’s objectives through the effective management of resources•Challenge appropriately and confidently where standards of care fall below those which the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse would expect.

Project Objectives• Develop a generic job description and role framework• Agree a regional title for the role.• Identify the key elements required for the induction and continuous

professional development of Ward Sisters/Charge Nurses• Make recommendations about processes that regionally and within

organisations support succession planning for nurses and midwives. • Develop a section on NIPEC website for Ward Sisters/Charge Nurses.• Submit a final project report to Directors of Nursing and Chief

Nursing Officer.
