    INTRODUCTION

The prime objective of this proposed project is to protect the Environment by

promoting an enterprise based on paper and plastic recycling. In Chennai, every day,

4,900 tonnes of solid waste is generated. Out of this, 23% is paper and plastic

waste. The use of paper and other plastics such as pens, ruler, etc. in our day to day

life remains indispensable especially in schools. With increase in schools, industries,

etc. the per capita consumption of paper in various forms is growing day to day. It is

better to prevent waste reaching the bins than generate revenue by sending them to

the scrap buyers who recycle the waste. For example, recycling a single ton of paper

can save 17 trees, saving as much as 7,000 gallons of water, 2 barrels of oil and

4,100 kilowatt-hours of electricity. Moreover, the 17 trees used to produce a ton of

paper can absorb and process 250 tons of carbon dioxide, which is a significant

greenhouse gas causing global warming. Recycling of the used paper is a highly

energy efficient mechanism, and requires less than 60% of energy when comparedto regular paper producing technologies, which produce paper from scratch using

raw materials. About 40 % waste paper is put in landfills. Thus, recycling of a single

ton of paper saves 3.3 cubic yard of landfill space. In a school, 10 grams of paper

waste per student is produced every month, of which 70% is scrap paper which can

be recycled. In order to build a plan for the proposed business enterprise, this

    feasibility study is proposed.

    RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

    1. To study the growing trend in stationery market: Since growing schools and

population the consumption to stationary is increasing and also growth in technology

the consumption of stationary in future in some point of time use of stationery might

    show paperless schools.

    2. To analyse the purchase habits of schools: The purchasing pattern is whether it

purchase as annually or quarterly bases, the quantity of every school varies with

related to size of the school, usage of stationery & no of students.

    3. To analyse how e-commerce has helped their purchasing process: The process of

delivering, benefits such as discounts and offers which they get.

    4. To study the waste generated by the purchased stationery been disposed or

recycled: If disposed how it affect the environment.

    5. To analyse how much revenue can be generated through the waste

    METHODOLOGY

The feasibility study will depend on a methodology that combines:

    1. Secondary research on the growth rates, emerging trends and also the

qualitative dimensions of the stationery products market (this secondaryresearch will involve analysing relevant data from business newspapers,

business magazines and industry reports, if available)

    2. Primary and secondary research on the commercial opportunities for products

recycled from paper and plastic waste, to ascertain the market potential

    3. Primary research among a representative sample of schools. This will involve

the administration of a comprehensive survey questionnaire; a one-to-one

interaction with qualified respondents from the school and the collection and

analysis of relevant data from schools (data other than that addressed in thequestionnaire)

    4. Secondary research on other ventures in other markets / locations that have

attempted to address the problem of solid waste (paper and plastic) through

the same route of recycling. This will help learn more about strategies,

operational decisions, and key practices determining the success or failure of

a venture such as the one proposed

    CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the project proposes to do an in-depth of the feasibility of a

recycling enterprise by focusing on the capture/procurement of two forms of

waste (paper and plastic) generated in one notable institutional group namely,

    schools.

The project proposes to study the feasibility by surveying the consumption trends

of paper products and plastic products in schools as well as the related volume of

waste generated, in order to identify the nature of business opportunity available

in both quantitative and qualitative dimensions.
