2 PMI Educational Foundation – Latin America newsletter
Newsletter Team This month we want to share with you a message sent by David Buckman (PMI Educational Foundation) to our team.
“Dear Gerardo, Edinei, Paul, Edith, Pablo and Gabriel, On behalf of PMIEF I would like to thank you for all of your great efforts regarding the production of the monthly Latin America newsletter. The quality of the content and presentation is excellent!
As the person responsible for creating the PMIEF liaison newsletter each month I know that it can be difficult to maintain such high quality on a regular basis and I can honestly say that I’ve learned how to improve my own newsletter just by reading yours each month.” Our team is working hard in order to communicate all the efforts in Latino America and we can only add that when you like what you do, really good things happen.
Argentina – Nuevo Cuyo
210 CONIN’s administrators learned Project Management
Within PMI Educational Foundation scope and with PMI Nuevo Cuyo Argentina sponsorship, a hands-on workshop was given to 210 administrators of CONIN Foundation during its annual event called “Simple ideas, transcendent results”. CONIN Foundation is a non-profit organization who prevents childhood undernourishment, providing assistance to more than 10,000 beneficiaries, in
80 prevention centers, located in 7 countries. The main collaborators for the 1.5 hour workshop were Victoria Ferro (VP Finance PMINC) and Joaquín de Rosas (PMIEF Liaison PMINC). The workshop was delivered by Pablo Lledó (PMIEF Engagement Committee).

The participants learned the importance to start every project with a project charter, to facilitate transcendent and repeatable results. Also, they now know that a successful project need specific tools before execution. Volunteers from CONIN Venado Tuerto, says: last year we learned about the Project Charter and we started implementing that tool. That was the key for our successful project called “Manalenas”, were we provide work to mothers who produce cakes to sell to enterprises, and this is an important income for the Foundation programs. More information here. Related links: Presentation.
A growing interest in social projects Due to the growing interest in social projects in the region of Nuevo Cuyo (Mendoza, San Juan, San Luis and La Rioja), PMIEF section in Chapter monthly newsletter is increasingly hard. In September, two color pages with news and information were published.

México – DF Monica and David were talking about the disaster that was their bazaar. An event that will
allow to raise fund for their organization, ended without generating much profits and wore
their team.
Everyone wanted to take decisions and because the chair’s rental was not paid on time, they
didn’t arrived. Getting a last minute provider, resulted in a very expensive cost. Actually what
happened was not strange: last year something similar happened with a canvas…Time-out! Do
you know this story?
Many events, activities and programs arise from the good will of Civil Society Organizations
(CSO), but unfortunately there are not always the knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to
carry out projects.

On April 3rd, the PMI’s Mexico Chapter offered a training session on Project Management to
ten representatives of EDUCA’s Network organizations (work network formed by 50 institutions
that signed a collaboration agreement with EDUCA Foundation for the joint implementation of
various programs). This formation helps in the planning, execution, monitoring and controlling
of the program, but most importantly, it has created awareness among all in that it is possible
to do better; learn from past experiences and, therefore, grow the organization.

Panamá
PMI Panamá Congress During the Panama Congress, PMIEF had a
stand in which they could give information
about their current activities. Special thanks to
the volunteers that made it possible: Alex
Villareal, Carlos Ramirez, Ruth Gomez, Eduardo
Velez, Norma Salguera y Rosemary Saez. Many
members came to express their interest to
support their PMIEF following activities, and to

PMIEF in Schools Volunteer Frank gave talk on September 3rd, on project management principles, using as base
material PMIEF, to Finca Blanco School students in the province of Chiriqui. This is the fifth
lecture that school volunteers deliver, which completes the goal of 2014.
Yaravi Cardoze (Panama Liaison) says about their plans: “We are getting prepared for the next
2015 school year, which starts in February, as the coming months, until the end of the school
year in Panama (November) are very irregular and there is low probability that we may deliver
more talks (but if a contact comes in a new school, we will be there). During the month of
January 2015 we aim to organize workshops for teachers from schools with which we have
contact, to continue the process.”
