FARMING FOUNDATION PROJECT RC Northcliff / Johannesburg D 9400
Objectives
-to empower small scale farmers to become more efficient in producing an income from crop
and livestock production on limited areas of land, without the need of high input costs.
-to serve impoverished farm communities within the Mkhondo sub-district of Gert Sibande
District in Mpumalanga, South Africa, by:
•Supplying own farm produce
•Supplementing income
•Empowering otherwise unemployed farm residents
•Supplementing otherwise unbalanced diet with a variety of fresh farm produce
•Improving land use according to recognized holistic farming management practices
Therefore the project will include:
•The establishment of a demonstration farm on 7.5 ha
•Training workshops and viewing operational model farm
•Farmer support service.
Vocational training team
Most farm inhabitants have little formal school background, are illiterate and do not have
access to information through the internet or literature.

Proposal - Project Title: Alexandra Youth and Early Childhood Development
Practitioner Programme in cooperation with Align-ED Foundation
Proposed activity(ies)
•Research of local conditions and understanding of the context in which the project
will be deployed
•Pre measures: Impact study – Interviews and questionnaires
•Recruitment of programme participants
•Implementation of the learning programme:
Five day training process called ‘Choices’.
Day 1: focuses on the life skills linked to making positive empowered
choices and positions the community initiative in the context of the choice
made to focus on Early Childhood Development.
Day 2: Peer Educator and / or Early Childhood Development Training
Day 3: Practical training in the learning products to be delivered to the
targeted population –ECD activities aimed at ECD children –
development of social skills, fine motor skills and creative skills that are
pivotal to reading and numeracy.
Day 4 and 5: Assessment of competence of the ECD Practitioners.
•Post implementation assessment and reporting

Zusammenfassung (Wernt Brewitz): Der E-club Southern Africa bietet Rotary Clubs
in Deutschland die Beteiligung an einem groß angelegten Ausbildungs- und
Erziehungsprogramm in der Alexandra Township im Norden von Johannesburg mit
seinen mehr als 500.000 Menschen an. Geplant ist das Training qualifizierter
Ausbilder für die eigentlichen Lehrer und Trainer. Die kalkulierten
Gesamtaufwendungen für diesen Teil des Programms belaufen sich auf insgesamt
2,5 Millionen ZAR, was in etwa 200 T€ entspricht.

Projektvorschlag des RC Hermanus:
Erziehung von Kindern unter Berücksichtigung ihres
familiären und sozialen Umfeldes. Mit dem „Pebbles Project“
erfasst man die Weinbaugebiete in der Nähe von Hermanus
mit seinen verschiedenen Kleinbauern und Arbeitern.
Gesamtvolumen beträgt 900.00 ZAR bzw. ca. 70.000 €.
