Automation In AsiaAn interview with SIKO GmbH’s Head Of Marketing,Christian Fischer
We are seeing an ongoing trend in the automation of packaging and labelling machines. Automation means more reliable, more efficient and more process-safe production for our customers, which is a growing demand everywhere because of the target to avoid inferior goods and produce more cost-effi cient products with greater fl exibility.
The demands for fl exibility are increasingly being met by modern production processes. With a wide product variety and increasingly small batch sizes, optimum system availability is becoming even more important. Short tooling times are therefore a standard requirement for packaging machines.
The reliability of the positioning systems employed is decisive for f lexible production processes, irrespective of whether these are inexpensive with
a handwheel, reliable with a bus-compatible position indicator or fully automatic with an actuator. As the inventor of the mechanical-digital position indicator, the so-called SIKO counter, today we are the global market leader in the fi eld of digital position indicators. So we supply not only products, but complete solutions and answers to the actual trends in the SEA region.
At ProPak Asia, We expect to meet a wide audience who is interested in our position indicators and actuators for optimised machine set-up times. In detail, we expect to meet engineers, technical sales professionals as well as machine builders (OEMs) and end-users of packaging machines in general.
This event is our hotspot in Asia to meet existing and new potential customers in the packaging industry. Here, we present our latest innovations to international visitors who come from all over the world. They express interest in innovations like our new electronic position indicators with fi eldbus or ethernet communication as well as our fully automated spindle drives. At the moment, we are also presenting new spindle positioning systems with IO-Link communication to our customers. We are looking forward to have interesting talks with the ProPak Asia visitors at our booth.

T he latest generation FastBack Horizontal Motion conveyor system featuring the FastBack Revolution Proportional Gate is the industry’s safest and only truly proportional gate.
The gate accurately meters product fl ow from distribution conveyors to weighing and packaging stations and signifi cantly multiplies accuracy of product stream to ensure consistent, continuous feed.
The system has the fastest product travel weight of any horizontal motion conveyor thereby making it ideal for high volume production. For manufacturers who demand the best performance while maintaining food safety and product integrity, the latest generation system sets a new benchmark for sanitary horizontal motion conveyors and is built for wash down environments and simple sanitation.
Complete Inspection Systems by Heat And ControlLeading metal detectors by CEIA are improving food safety for prepared, convenience meals with their range of THS detectors which identify both magnetic and nonmagnetic metals, including high-resistivity stainless steel.
Metal detection as part of the inspection process can occur at several points throughout a production line. Its primary purpose being to identify metal contaminants such as aluminium or stainless steel in food products, or to detect other foreign matter, even paint chips, thereby meeting consumer expectations for safety, consistency and avoiding costly product recalls.
Metal detection units also protect the machinery in your production line. The smallest metal particle could lead to machinery malfunction and result in loss of revenue due to production downtime to perform repairs and the cost of repairs.

Contiflow Mixers And Carbonators For Non-Alcoholic Refreshment Drinks
T he continuously operating Contiflow mixer is a superbly harmonised blending system for the soft-drinks sector. It is used for continuous
production of highly disparate beverages. New output ranges, a higher maximum output, stepless output regulation and a revised deaeration philosophy, plus maintenance-friendlier design thanks to an easy-access pump configuration and rigorous use of flanged connections—these were the key features of the new generation of mixers.
The Contiflow is available in five different sizes, delivering up to 90 cubic metres per hour. Each Contiflow can be steplessly adjusted from 33 to 100 percent of rated output, and thus within these limits is matched automatically to the speed of the filler.
The Contiflow consists of the deaeration, dosing and carbonating modules, thus uniting three processes in a single machine. In addition, recuperative
heat exchangers cool down the vacuum pump’s sealing water, thus enabling well-nigh loss-free operation and contributing towards Krones AG’s enviro sustainability concept.

STATEC BINDER: PRINCIPAC & Packaging TrendsC urrently, the manufacturing sector in Thailand has been boosted by tax
privileges from the government to invest in factory automation. The country’s rapid transition to a digital economy is a key factor that drives the growth of industrial sector and the entire logistics. Coincidently, the second driving factor is about the rising labour costs and the lack of manpower which fluctuate the sustainability of all medium to large size enterprises.
Thai manufacturers trust reliable technology from Europe and America, and take into account the rapid growth of using automatic machinery applied in the production process from upstream to downstream.
Several global machinery suppliers have been present in the Thai market for many years. Specifically, the multinational manufacturers that located the production facilities in Thailand have been the prototype for Thai companies in using technology instead of labour.
Thailand has been a regional production base for agricultural products such as rice, sugar, flour, starch, animal feed, etc. Well-known producers have used automatic packaging machines to keep expanding with reliable packaging
technology. We’ve foreseen the continuing growth in the packaging industry for new expansions and replacements of old conventional processes.
At this year’s ProPak Asia, STATEC BINDER will be showcasing the fastest bagging machine in its portfolio. The PRINCIPAC is a fully automatic high-performance bagging machine for open-mouth bags. With up to 2000 bags per hour the PRINCIPAC is one of the fastest bagging machines for open-mouth bags in the world. Both pillow bags and gusset bags with a filling weight of 10 kg to 50 kg can be processed. This bagging machine is ideally suited for any type of free-flowing bulk material and with additional equipment such as a dustproof filling spout also for powdery products. Further options enable the PRINCIPAC to be optimally adapted to customer requirements.

How has the show evolved other the past few years? In the past, we were actively looking for a trade show in Southeast Asia and gave ProPak Asia a try in 2015. Honestly, the fi rst two shows did not see a lot of visitors from the confectionery industries, which we are focused on. That´s why we introduced the Confectionery Pavilion, a joint participation of
What is the Japan pavilion showcasing this year?In ProPak Asia 2019, JPMA (Japan Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Association) participates together with 16 co-exhibitors as the Japan Pavilion, located in Hall 99 - 100. This year, we have expanded our pavilion to fi ve islands. We off er tailored solutions with a variety of Japanese advanced exhibits, such as packaging machinery, inspection machinery, weighing machinery, food processing machinery, packaging materials, vacuum coolers, high effi ciency steam boilers, and so on.
In conjunction, we will hold a collaborative seminar with “The Japan Food Machinery Manufacturers’ Association”, held on Thursday, June 13. In this seminar, we will present you the latest solutions by Japanese technologies. We believe visitors will be satisfi ed with the seminar.
machinery suppliers for the confectionery industry in 2017. This represents a unique oppor tunity for confectionery manufacturers to benefi t from access to combined expertise through the entire processing and packaging. The increasing number of visitors indicates a good acceptance of this concept.
What opportunities do you seen in Asia?Theegarten-Pactec is specialised in the development and manufacturing of effi cient high-speed primary packaging machines for the confectionery industry. Asia is very important for us, since the confectionery consumption will certainly increase here in the years coming. And efficiency is gaining also importance in this region—even in countries with relatively low labour costs. But wherever you look, personnel costs are rising everywhere, along with advancing industrialisation and tighter personnel resources.
The bottom line is: the more efficiently our customers’ products can be packaged on the machines, the faster the initial investment costs can be paid back. Therefore, effi ciency is always a decisive point—no matter where you look in the world.
We would also like to introduce our latest upcoming exhibition “JAPAN PACK 2019” to be held in October 2019. JAPAN PACK, bringing together major industry players in the manufacturing fi eld from around the world, has been highly acclaimed for both exhibitors and visitors to help drive their businesses.
What is JPMA expecting at the exhibition this year? ProPak Asia is an important and unmissable exhibition. Many industry leaders from all over the world, not only Asian countries, visit it every year. ProPak Asia is a great opportunity for us to promote our association and our upcoming exhibition, JAPAN PACK, by meeting new people.
