Cyprus Autumn brings cooler weather and ever improved property opportunities

September whizzed by in a flash and brought with it the surprise of early rain which cleaned the air and settledthe temperatures. One of the things that make Cyprus such a charming place to live in is that, unlike countriesnearer the equator, there are significant seasons here – fantastic spring flowers from February to April, sun­sea­and­sand summers and of course, just enough cold weather to give Christmas the essential open fires andmulled wine atmosphere.

October is always a good month for property investment, especially in Paphos. Fitzgerald’s have several newlistings of properties just arrived on the market and new buyers are choosing this time of cooler weather to visitand make their choices.

Sadly Cyprus at present time is in the headlines for all the wrong reasons and printing bad news seems to getthe attention the media craves, never mind the reality: but then, when was the media hype a true indication ofwhat is real and balanced in a small country like Cyprus? Fortunately, each country is unique and this is whatmakes it so appealing to visit, play or live there. Tourism related companies and their marketing strategists know this exceedingly well, no doubt tothe delight of their clients and countries they visit.

There are very many reasons why Cyprus is a desirable place to be. We are going through a tough patch, but from what we hear there are lots ofthings that are changing for the better. The banking crisis did not seriously affect prices but it did clear the air so that Cyprus property prices cannow improve dramatically over the next one to two years. There are such great opportunities now to buy quality property, be it large, medium orsmall, and these are unlikely to be repeated.

There is a school of thought that suggests it might be safer for potential buyers to rent for a few years and then make up their minds when theyhave gained some familiarity and seen how the market lies. This strategy is sound and mostly applicable to properties without the Title Deeds.Having Title Deed makes all the difference. Over the last several years prices have already fallen substantially and to hesitate when prices arebottoming out is not a perfect strategy to get the most house for your money. If you are really serious and want to take advantage of present lowprices, focus on what you want. A year is a long time in the property market.

In the Spring of 1990 I decided to take a break from work and soak up some Cyprus sunand Pissouri culture. I was bitten by the "Cyprus Bug" – during my short stay I wasoffered a Reception/Bar and bookkeeping position with a local hotel, I returned to theUK, with some sadness, proffered by resignation to my Boss and made my move – fatehad started to take hold. My parents purchased the very same hotel shortly after andmade Cyprus their place of home and work. I continued to work for them, enjoying theweather, clean living, fresh food and social life.

On my 21st birthday I met my husband to be, George, his family had recently completedthe construction of the Hill View Restaurant& Hotel Apartments on the top of the hill inPissouri and he was a busy, young Entrepreneur& Chef with the same work ethic and

family values as me.

We were married in 1995 and have worked together, along with his family, to build the Hill View into the successful businessit is today. We have three bi­lingual children, Thekla (15), Joseph (12) and our newest addition and little surprise, Lily Mayborn in May 2012. Family life took over and I pulled back from working at the Restaurant.

I was very surprised and pleased when my Husband’s Aunt Elena Sofokleous, rang to say that a position had arisen for aRepresentative of Fitzgeralds in Pissouri, Aphrodite Hills and the surrounding villages and she wondered if I might beinterested in attending an interview. I had nothing to lose by going to meet with Daryl Fitzgerald and looked forward to thepossibility of something new. With Mr Fitzgerald’s backing and my tenacity for doing things to the best of my ability, Icommenced my new position.
