September is a time for students to renew friendships, adjust to new courses, and become comfortable with new living environments. It is also a time for students to consider engaging in activities both in and outside of the classroom. Encourage your sons and daughters to talk with a professor, an academic advisor and/or a career counselor to explore service learning, research, and internship opportunities.

A REAL BALANCING ACTA REAL BALANCING ACTIt is hard to believe that mid-terms are already here. Time management skills will be put to the test. Encourage your sons and daughters to stay balanced. This includes a healthy diet, adequate sleep, and exercise. This might be a good time to guide your student to the many campus resources and support services that are available.

The month of December can be filled with both anxiety and excitement as students prepare for finals and look forward to going home for the holidays. Helping students to plan ahead can help them to feel more in control. This is also a great time to send a care package from home. Notes of encouragement, snacks, and homemade baked goods, are always appreciated.

January signals the beginning of a new semester. A new course schedule and new professors require a readjustment on many levels, which can sometimes make it difficult for students to settle into a routine of campus life. Don’t hesitate to encourage your sons and daughters to connect with the Office of Academic Services to help get them back on track.

Spring break allows time for students to refresh, renew, and rejuvenate. Whether they’ve planned a getaway with friends, or plan to have some downtime at home, most students eagerly look forward to this time away from campus. When they return to PC, students will need to switch gears and refocus their time and energy, as end-of-semester deadlines draw near. Your support and encouragement can go a long way in helping your son or daughter to stay focused.

Spring is a beautiful time on our campus, and it is wonderful once again to see students engaged in so many outdoor activities. Help your sons and daughters to make good and wise choices by revisiting some of your own expectations with them. Be sure to include a discussion about the many services offered by the Office of Safety and Security, such as shuttle transportation and the student escort system.

PROVIDENCE COLLEGE DIRECTORY FOR PARENTS
This calendar is brought to you as a collaboration between the Parents for Providence and the PC Parent Program.
Providence College providencecol provcollege Providence College
September 2015
To all parents –
Welcome to the Providence College community. As the proud parents of a daughter in the class of 2016, and another who is in the class of 2018, we would like to share with you what makes Providence College so special to us and to our family.
PC is a place where students can explore history and the arts while deepening their faith and serving others. It’s a place where they learn to become independent and confident, knowledgeable about the world around them, and prepared to contribute in meaningful ways.
Part of what makes PC so unique is the people who make up its close-knit campus community—from the ever-present Dominican Friars to the friendly, helpful staff to the renowned faculty. It is most evident, however, in the students, who are courteous, respectful, and kind. Both of our daughters have flourished within this community.
Just as there are many ways students can immerse themselves in life on campus, parents are encouraged to be involved at PC as well. The PC Parent Program offers resources for parents to understand the college experience and promote student success. The Parents Leadership Council helps advance the College’s mission through active volunteerism and philanthropy. Throughout this calendar, you’ll see important information and key dates, as well as helpful monthly tips courtesy of the PC Parent Program.
As the co-chairs of the Parents Leadership Council, we eagerly look forward to an exciting academic year for all of our bright young Friars, and another successful year for PC as it continues its all-important mission. We hope that your son or daughter has a successful year and that he or she takes full advantage of all that Providence College has to offer.
Sincerely,
Tom and Jeanmarie Scaturro ’16P, ’18PCo-chairs, Parents Leadership Council
