Providence FoUndATionS in oreGon 2 2013 AnnUAl rePorT
dear Friend of Providence, every year we feel blessed to have your support and commitment, and 2013 was no exception. Because of your generosity and dedication, Providence in oregon took many important steps forward in our ongoing journey of providing excellent, compassionate service to our patients and communities.
We hope you enjoy and are inspired by the stories in this annual report – all of which you helped make possible. Whether it’s a nursing center resident enjoying greater mobility, a mother who knows her child is well cared for while she receives medical treatment, family members who feel blessed knowing their loved one is receiving excellent care near the end of life, a father whose sudden stroke is quickly assessed and treated close to home, or a young woman who faces breast cancer with new hope and possibility … all of these stories, and many more, exist because you care.
“Thank you” seems inadequate, but it is heartfelt. Providence literally couldn’t be Providence without your faith, enthusiasm, support, talents and energy. Thank you wholeheartedly on behalf of all those we serve.

n HOPE for Children event
On a warm, sunny day in July, 288 golfers swung their clubs for kids in need at the foundation’s annual HOPE for Children Charity Golf Classic presented by Integra. This year’s event raised $156,000 for Providence Neurodevelopmental Center for Children and for Faith in Action’s Family Friends Program. Since the event began with Integra 11 years ago, more than $1.2 million has been raised for Newberg-area kids in need.
n Women and Children’s services
The number of births has increased steadily since Providence Newberg Medical Center opened in 2006. The birth center staff at Providence Newberg must be prepared for all types of medical situations related to moms and their newborns. Thanks to the generosity of donors, the foundation was able to purchase a simulation newborn known as the “SimNewB.” With realistic newborn traits and realistic clinical feedback, SimNewB provides ideal training for birth center employees. This purchase helps prepare caregivers for critical neonatal events and improves outcomes for newborns during the important first few minutes of life.
n Warmth and comfort during a difficult time
A warm blanket may seem like a small gesture, but it makes such a positive impact on patients receiving chemotherapy at Providence Oncology Hematology-Newberg. With generously donated funds, Providence was able to provide a blanket warmer to bring comfort to our patients during their cancer treatments.
For the past 11 years, golfers have come together to support Newberg-area children in need.
Laura Morris, RN, maternity services at Providence Newberg Medical Center, demonstrates the features of SimNewB, a technology that helps train staff for newborn health scenarios.Providence neWBerG heAlTh FoUndATion 4
