1 Process for the preparation of callsrecommendations:
• April 2014 - Consultation process within EGVIA to collect initial ideas: more than 200 contributions submitted by the members, put together in a table and organised around thematic research areas.
• May 2014 - EGVI PPP Partnership Board Meeting: first discussion between EGVIA Industry Delegation and EC representatives identification of strategic research areas to be addressed in the future calls
• June 2014 – Consolidation of the list of suggested research areas for the 2016-2017 EGVI calls and submission to the EC for first consideration.

Process for the preparation of calls recommendations:• 22 October 2014- Presentation of the strategic research areas
identified by the EGVI PPP Partnership Board and endorsement of the list – to be used as reference for further work.
• 24 November 2014 – Organisation of a workshop for all EGVIA members to discuss the focus and scope of the call topics, and the priorities for 2016 vs 2017.
• 16 January 2015 – EGVI PPP Partnership Board Meeting : discussion on the first topics sent to the European Commission.
• April 2015 – Distribution of the 2016 / 2017 call to the Programme Committee
• October 2015 – Publication of the 2016 / 2017 calls for proposals

1. Optimisation of heavy duty vehicles foralternative fuels use
o Optimise and develop new powertrains (engine/aftertreatment systems) for the use of alternative fuelsin Heavy Duty Vehicles.
o Evaluate energy efficiency, costs, performance,environmental benefits and durability of HDVrunning on alternative fuels
o Fuel options included into the scope : Bio-methane mixed into Liquefied Natural Gas Biofuels ED95 and B30

2. Technologies for low emission light dutypowertrains
o New generation of non-hybrid engines based on existingengine technologies: optimal combination of innovativeengine and robust after-treatment technologies as wellas modelling and testing to improve the design andcontrol capability.
o Future combustion engines for electrified powertrains:new combustion processes, sensing, control and aftertreatment systems, supported by advanced modellingtechnologies.
o Development of the related measurement proceduresdown to 10 nm, providing a contribution to futureregulation on particle emissions.

3. System and cost optimised hybridisation of roadvehicles
o For range extended electric vehicles, development ofnovel high efficiency and high power density energygenerators and close integration with electric systems.
o For pure and plug-in hybrids, power-train systemintegration and optimisation through the re-use ofwaste heat, advanced control, downsizing of ICEs,innovative transmissions and the integration of hightemperature electronic components.
o Potential for cost reduction and lower cost energystorage as well as improved after-treatment operation.
