This will help create a proper matchup when the patterns are assembled into two-sided sheets. b) Match up the two sheets (“front” and “back”) of page 1, back-to-back. Hold them up to the light to ensure alignment of the red guidelines. c) When the two sheets are matched up and aligned, tape them together at the top to keep them aligned. d) Apply adhesive (or rubber cement) to the back of one of the sheets and smooth the sheets together, creating an aligned two-sided pattern. e) Repeat for the two sheets of page 2. 3 CUTTING AND SCORING THE TWO-SIDED PATTERNS a) Familiarize yourself with the two-sided patterns and the parts diagram at right, which shows all cuts and scores. b) CUT SLOTS FIRST: Locate all slots on both sheets. There are twelve slots on page 1, and eight on page 2. c) Always use a fresh blade with the hobby knife held straight, and a steel straightedge to ensure straight cutting and scoring. d) With the patterns placed onto the cutting surface, cut out all slots. e) MAKE SCORES NEXT: After all slots are cut, locate the scores on both patterns. Scores are indicated by dashed lines. f) Score all dashed lines, being careful to not cut all the way through g) CUT OUT PIECES LAST: When all scores are made, carefully cut out all pieces (five total) along the black lines. h) Test-fold all pieces before starting assembly. • Spray adhesive (3M or similar) orrubber cement (Best Test One-Coator similar)

• Hobby knife with fresh blades(X-Acto #11 or similar)

• Steel straightedge

• Suitable cutting surface such as aclean sheet of cardboard

• White glue (Elmer’s or similar)

a) Before trying the color version, you may want to start with the “line art” model...color in the line art pieces with your own squadron markings!b) If desired, sheets of lightweight bristol board can be manually fed through your printer twice to create the pair of two-sided patterns.c) Make sure that your paper is loaded correctly to ensure a nicely squared printout and print the desired pages normally.

2 ASSEMBLING THE TWO-SIDED PATTERNS from standard printer paper

a) Make sure that your paper is loaded correctly to ensure a nicely squared printout. This will help create a proper matchup when the patternsare assembled into two-sided sheets.b) Match up the two sheets (“front” and “back”) of page 1, back-to-back. Hold them up to the light to ensure alignment of the red guidelines.c) When the two sheets are matched up and aligned, tape them together at the top to keep them aligned.d) Apply adhesive (or rubber cement) to the back of one of the sheets and smooth the sheets together, creating an aligned two-sided pattern. e) Repeat for the two sheets of page 2.

3 CUTTING AND SCORING THE TWO-SIDED PATTERNS

a) Familiarize yourself with the two-sided patterns and the parts diagramat right, which shows all cuts and scores.b) CUT SLOTS FIRST: Locate all slots on both sheets. There aretwelve slots on page 1, and eight on page 2.c) Always use a fresh blade with the hobby knife held straight, and asteel straightedge to ensure straight cutting and scoring.d) With the patterns placed onto the cutting surface, cut out all slots.e) MAKE SCORES NEXT: After all slots are cut, locate the scores onboth patterns. Scores are indicated by dashed lines.f) Score all dashed lines, being careful to not cut all the way throughg) CUT OUT PIECES LAST: When all scores are made, carefully cutout all pieces (five total) along the black lines.h) Test-fold all pieces before starting assembly.

1 TAIL ASSEMBLY

a) With the pattern and slots cut, and the scores test-folded, applywhite glue to one of the areas marked GLUE AREA Ab) Bend the tail and pass it through SLOT A so that GLUE AREA Ameets GLUE AREA A , taking care that slots line upc) Press together, taking care of excess glue that may squeeze outd) Repeat for the other side of the rudder, with GLUE AREAS Band SLOT B

2 ASSEMBLY OF NACELLES

a) Apply glue to one of the areas marked GLUE AREA Cb) Fold the nacelle into a 4-sided tube, with the flap comingover so that GLUE AREA C meets GLUE AREA Cc) Taking care that all slots of nacelle are lined up, press thenacelle flat, taking care of excess glue that may squeeze outd) Expand the flattened nacelle back into a 4-sided tubee) Repeat for the other nacelle with GLUE AREAS D

3 FUSELAGE ASSEMBLY

a) Apply glue to one of the areas marked GLUEAREA E (including the inside tail)b) Bend sides of fuselage inward so that GLUEAREA E meets GLUE AREA E, taking care that slots line upc) Press together, taking care of excess glued) When glue is dry, gently expand the flattenednacelle back into the 6-sided fuselage

4 NOSE ASSEMBLY

a) Apply glue to one of the areasmarked GLUE AREA Fb) Bend sides of nose in until GLUEAREA F meets GLUE AREA Fc) Press together, taking care ofexcess glued) Gently expand the flattenednacelle back into the 6-sided nose

5 ASSEMBLY OF WINGS

a) Fold aileron flat of the main (larger)wing flat, and pass the folded wing completely through the fusleage’s larger (rearmost) slotb) After passing the folded wing throughthe slot, center the wing on the fuselagec) Repeat for the canard (smaller) wing, passing it through the forward slot

6 ATTACHING THE NACELLES

a) Apply glue to GLUE AREA Gb) Folding an aileron under, slide the leftnacelle onto the wings until GLUE AREA Gmeets GLUE AREA G, taking care to keepboth wings centered on the fuselagec) Repeat for the right nacelled) When both nacelles are in place, unfoldthe ailerons upward

7 FINISHING

a) Hold model steady and gently force the nose upward so that the canopy closes, and apply a small amount of white glue to the canopy’s topb) Hold the canopy in place until it dries. Gently blowing on the canopy’s top canassist in drying, which should continue until canopy no longer needs to be held c) Fold the fuselage’s rear blue covers outward, and apply a small amount of glued) Hold the rear fuselage covers in place until they dry. Gently blowing on the coverscan assist in drying, which should continue until covers no longer need to be held e) Adjust overall straightness of model as needed. Model is complete

• Make sure all cutsand scores have beenmade

• Test-fold all scoresbefore startingassembly

• Review and understand each stepbefore assembly
