    Program Update 3

    (September, 2013)

    Working with the underserved

    communities for over two decades now,

    PSP continues to make significant

    contributions and a genuine difference in

    peoples lives.

    In view of the recent catastrophe at

    Uttarakhand and the resulting devastation,

    and as part of its commitment towards the

    communities, PSP has started a

    comprehensive 3-phase `Relief-

    Rehabilitation-Development Program in

    the state. A base-camp is being set up and

    a dedicated team is being created to

    alleviate the sufferings of the local

    inhabitants, help them overcome the loss &

    trauma and then restore normalcy in theirlives and the region.

    PSP-Uttarakhand Relief-Rehabilitation-Development Program : Update-3

    PSPs on-ground relief and rehabilitation works & activities, prioritizing children & women, inthe flood-hit areas of Uttarakhand are now in its fourth month.

    Other than the distribution of thousands of relief-kits and generic medicines in the affectedvillages, financial aid and other need based help continues to be extended by PSP through its

    dedicated project-teams permanently stationed in the region.

    As on date, 2 Shelter Homes and 2 ProjectOffices-cum-Relief Material Stores are fully

    operational and being used to carry out

    the program activities & objectives.

    The relief & rehabilitation works beingundertaken by PSP has been commended

    not only by the communities but the local

    authorities as well.

    42 children brought under VATSALYA care(Shelter, Food & Nutrition, Healthcare,

    Education, & Overall Wellbeing) at Ukhimath

    Shelter Home (Vatsalya Centre-1).

    101 children brought under VATSALYA care(Shelter, Food & Nutrition, Healthcare,

    Education, & Overall Wellbeing) at Fata

    Shelter Home (Vatsalya Centre-2).

    The beneficiary children are being activelyengaged in different indoor games and

    outdoor activities to help them return to

    normalcy in daily lives.

    Child Education being one of our keyagendas, the children have been enrolled

    with the existing Schools in the vicinity.

    7 Vocational Training Centres established in the following areas:o Badasuo Rampuro Triyugi Naraino Devli Bhandigramo Badsuo Korkhio Ukhimath

    Around 250 women & young girls are enrolled and obtaining training at the above 7 VT-Centres.

    All VT-Centres equipped with Sewingmachines and necessary raw material and

    tools and have dedicated Trainers.

    20 villagers from the affected region havebeen provided employment and retained

    as Caretakers, Cooks, Trainers, etc. under

    the Program.

    More children to be brought under the ambit of VATSALYA care at the existing centres andopening up of additional centre/s.

    10 more VT-Centres to be established process of finalizing location underway. More women and young girls to be mobilized and enrolled for the life-skill development and

    vocational training.

    Formation & nurturing of women SHGs (Self Help Groups) to create micro-enterprises forsupplementing household income.

    Construction and running of a Sr. Secondary School in the district of Rudraprayag for providingfree quality education to the program children as well as other vulnerable children.

    Establishing ofVatsalyaGram in the state of Uttarakhand.
