    PSSP POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT - RESEARCH ASSISTANT

    PROGRAM BACKGROUND:

    The Pakistan Strategy Support Program (PSSP) is collaboration between Innovative Development Strategies (IDS) and the

    International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). It was launched in July 2011 and is a country-led and country-wide policy

    analysis and capacity strengthening program. The program provides analytical support on a range of economic policies

    affecting agricultural growth and food security in the country. The core purpose of the program is to contribute to pro-poor

    economic growth and enhanced food security through strengthened national capacity for designing and implementing

    evidence-based policy reforms. This requires improving research-based policy analysis; building capacity, leadership and

    networks among researchers and policy analysts within and outside the government; and disseminating research results

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    PSSP seeks qualified candidates to serve as Research Assistants in PSSPs following theme areas:

    1) Agricultural Production 2) Water Management 3) Macroeconomics, Markets and Trade 4) Poverty Dynamics

    Essential Duties:

    The successful candidate will participate in a range of activities including, but not limited to, the following:

    Assist in the implementation of data collection and analysis Collect and maintain data and information from primary and secondary sources Conduct data analyses using Microsoft Excel, SPSS, STATA, or other applications Conduct literature reviews and synthesize evidence Assist in the preparation of discussion papers, project reports, policy briefs, and journal articles Assist in project monitoring and reporting to donors Assist with implementation of capacity strengthening activities and workshops/seminars/ and conference Other duties as assigned.Essential Requirements

    MA or MSc in economics, agricultural economics, development economics or related fields. Experience working on topics such as irrigation, agriculture, poverty alleviation, rural development, or natural resource

    management in Pakistan

    Excellent verbal and written English, as well as strong interpersonal communication skills Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and produce completed products on time Excellent analytical skills Ability to work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary and multicultural team environment Experience with statistics and econometrics including the use of statistical software applicationsPreferred Requirements

    Knowledge of STATA and other econometrics or simulation packages (such as GAMS) Familiarity with development work in Pakistan Experience with large household surveysThe selected candidate will be employed directly by IDS and work on a full-time basis under the PSSP, in close collaboration

    with a team of IFPRI and IDS scholars based in Islamabad, Pakistan, and Washington, DC, USA.
