New window to the soul It’s often said that the eyes are the window to the soul, revealing our thoughts and feelings. Now, new research reveals that your eyes may also be an indicator of your personality type, simply by the way they move.
A study by UniSA researchers in collaboration with international partners uses state-of-the-art machine-learning algorithms to demonstrate a link between personality and eye movements, with findings showing that eye movement can reveal whether people are sociable, conscientious, or curious.
The study delivers important insights for social robotics, and its findings could help to improve interaction between humans and machines, making robots and computers more natural and better at interpreting human social signals.
With automation in customer service industries on the rise, in the future these findings could lead to improved personalised services and more authentic interactions with machines.

DOUBLE YOUR KNOWLEDGE
Enhance your career opportunities with a double degree. Combine your psychology
qualification with a second discipline in law, human resource management, exercise and sports science, or human
movement. Examine human behaviour and its application in different contexts and
environments, and focus your studies on your interests and career goals.
ENGAGE IN GROUND-BREAKING
RESEARCH The Behaviour Brain Body Research
Centre, based at Magill Campus, combines expertise in sleep, nutrition, and activity, and works to understand
their combined impact on people across the lifespan. Researchers
work collaboratively on projects that investigate a diverse range of topics,
including the effects of sleep on human performance; cognitive decline
and predicant dementia; and fatigue management and minimising risk with shift workers. You can get involved and gain valuable practical experience by participating in research studies and
projects during your degree.

CENTRE FOR COGNITIVE AND SYSTEMS NEUROSCIENCE / A research
and learning centre focused on cutting-edge research exploring the human brain and behaviour to help
improve cognitive health and human performance across the lifespan.
SOCIAL WORK STUDIOS / Designed to simulate a professional environment,
the studios are used to practice real life counselling scenarios and are equipped with the latest video recording equipment and one-way
mirrors so students can observe and provide peer feedback.
“My aim is to empower students to think critically and be able to solve problems independently. I am passionate about
understanding how the human brain processes language
and its links to neurobiology and the basic mechanisms for interpreting information. It’s important for students to find what they are most interested in and to explore new knowledge and findings in their chosen field.”
