From The Principal:
Harmony Day/ Grandparents Day
Truscott Street School will be celebrating Harmony Day and Grandparents Day on Wednesday 20 March 2019.
Grandparents and parents are invited to attend the morning. The day will start at 9.40 am in the hall. Students
who are representing Australia need to wear green and gold clothing. Students representing the Harmony Day
concept need to wear orange clothing. Students representing a country should wear clothing from that country.
Each country represented will parade and speak about their clothing or culture.
Grandparents are welcome to attend the parade and visit classrooms before recess. They can enjoy a delicious
morning tea from 11.15 in the hall.
Scripture Program
Scripture classes are now underway for 2019. Your child has been placed in the scripture group nominated by you
at the time of enrolment. Students who do not attend a scripture class are placed in a non-scripture group where
they will read, complete homework or engage in activities suitable for this non-teaching time. In the event that a
scripture teacher is unavailable your child will also attend non-scripture. Students will not be able to change
scripture classes without a valid written reason being provided by their parent. Unfortunately, due to student
numbers and available spaces within the school, the sampling of multiple scripture classes throughout the year is
not possible.

Library Library bags for borrowing
A big thank you to Mrs Pandey who made the library five beautiful book bags. These bright and colourful bags are
being loaned to students who have forgotten their bag to borrow books. They have been labelled with “TSPS” as a
reminder that they need to be returned to the school. It would be much appreciated if students could return
these bags to the library the next day.

Uniform Shop
We are very excited to announce that the second hand items are now available anytime!
They are now located in a cupboard in the hallway just outside the uniform shop.
Please feel free to come anytime to purchase items. It works via an honesty box system so please just leave the
money for the items you decide to purchase in the box around the right side of the cupboard.
We just ask a couple of things:
1. Please leave the area tidy so that we may continue to be able to offer this service.
2. Please be honest - parents have so generously donated good quality used clothes so that the money made from
them can go back to the school… in other words - back to your children.
Also, please note that the uniform shop will no longer be accepting cash as a form of payment commencing
Term 2.
Please note in regards to exchange or refund items: if you really cannot make it into the shop on Fridays, you may leave the items at the office to be processed the following Friday. Items in brand new condition with tags still attached will only be accepted. Update to Uniform Shop Hours: Fridays 8:30am - 9:30am Veronica Christy
Band News Week 9 Band Assembly
Parents of Band students are advised that there will be a performance at Week 9 Assembly on Friday 29 March
11.30am. Please come along if you can, if your child will be away or cannot attend please let us know immediately
as it may affect the performance.
New Percussion Ensemble
Last Tuesday students were given a brief demonstration during lines by our drum tutor Ben Curdie along with year
6 student Ben Thomas of some percussion instruments. David Thirgood of Inner West Music Academy spoke to
them about the new Percussion Ensemble starting in Term 2. He is aiming to have around 10-15 students playing
various drums and percussion instruments in a dynamic new ensemble. Students do not need to be in another
band, music ensemble or receiving private tutoring (however if they are that’s fine). To find out more please
contact David Thirgood at [email protected] or call 0400 517 009.
If your child would like to join a band or musical ensemble or you have questions regarding instrument hire please
contact [email protected] For more information regarding rehearsal times and how our music programs
work, go to the P&C Band website at www.tspspandc.org.au
