Social Entrepreneur of the Year – India 2014 awards is open for entries

Jubilant Bhartia Foundation and Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship are pleased to

announce the‘Social Entrepreneur of the Year’ (SEOY) Award for 2014 for India. Applicants are

invited to participate and share their innovation. The deadline for receiving first round applications is

May 31, 2014. Finalists will be selected following an intensive search and selection process, including

expert reviews and site visits. The winner will be announced at a high-profile award celebration in

November 2014.

Social Entrepreneurs are innovators, who implement practical and sustainable solutions to address challenges in numerous areas including health, education, environment, job creation and access to technology. Whether they are set up as for-profit entities, hybrid social ventures or not-for-profit organizations, their primary focus is transformational social change. Social entrepreneurs develop a revenue stream through the sale of products, services, fees or develop key partnerships to achieve sustainability.

Jubilant Bhartia Foundation joined hands with the Schwab Foundation starting in the year 2010 for the SEOY Award in India. Last year, Ms Chetna Sinha from Mann Deshi Group of Ventures was awarded the Social Entrepreneur of the Year India 2013 by the Finance Minister of India, Shri P Chidambaram. The other three finalists included Ms Mallika Dutt from Breakthrough, Dr Shelly Batra from Operation Asha and Mr Kishor & Ms Mrinalini Kher from Yuva Parivartan. The winners are selected by a prominent Jury consisting of Eminent Professionals from different walks of life.

The Jubilant Bhartia Foundation collaborates with the Schwab Foundation to provide unparalleled platforms at the national level for leading social innovators that highlight social entrepreneurship as a key element for inclusive growth. The finalists chosen are amongst those developing solutions in key growth areas. The Jubilant Bhartia Foundation aims to collaborate meaningfully with them by supporting them with linkages and networks to increase their impact and scale.

Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship is a sister organization of the World Economic Forum. The Foundation provides unique regional and global platforms to promote social entrepreneurship as a key element to advancing societies and addressing social problems innovatively and effectively. It also fosters a close-knit community of social entrepreneurs for idea exchange and replication of best practices.

Jubilant Bhartia Foundation established in 2007, is the not for profit organization of the Jubilant Bhartia Group. It focuses on conceptualizing and implementing the Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives for the Group. The Jubilant Bhartia Foundation’s activities include various community development work, health care programs, cultural and sports events, an environment preservation initiative, vocational training, women empowerment and educational activities.

Start Up Management Consulting Private Limited (Start Up!)is an incubator and advisor to social entrepreneurs. Their role in the Social Entrepreneur of the Year India Competition is to manage and support the candidate outreach and due diligence process on behalf of the Jubilant Bhartia Foundation.


Award Benefits

World Economic Forum Events

All Finalists will be invited to the World Economic Forum on India, 4th -6th November 2014, New Delhi. This is a unique opportunity to connect with business executives, key government leaders, civil society members and media representatives of the region. The Winner(s) will also be announced at an Award Celebration just prior to the World Economic Forum on India on Tuesday, 4th November 2014, New Delhi. The registration fee, flight, and lodging for all Finalists will be covered.

The Schwab Foundation Network

The Winner(s) will be included in the Schwab Foundation network. Benefits include access to a peer community of social entrepreneurs, services such as pro-bono consulting and legal advice, as well as scholarships to executive education courses at world-class institutions such as Harvard Business School and INSEAD. In addition, the registration-fee for network social entrepreneurs invited to all regional and global World Economic Forum meetings is waived.

Application Deadline

The deadline for receiving the first round application is 31 May 2014.
