What is 21st Century Learning? �  Success in the 21st century requires

Technology Today �  Today, information and communications

technologies (ICTs) infiltrate classrooms around the world at an exceedingly rapid pace.

�  The current generation of students, spend 6.5

hours each day saturated in print, electronic, digital, broadcast and news media. They listen to and record music; view, create and publish Internet content; play video games; watch television; talk on mobile phones and instant message every day.

The Challenges of Teaching �  The classroom has changed in today’s school system. Curricula

evolve, and new methodologies are developed to reach the current generation, that spends as much time stimulated by digital media as it does in school.

�  Learning must be relevant to students

�  Technology can be distracting – ICT in the classroom requires students and educators to be taught how and when to use technology as a tool appropriately and safely.

�  Bound by external education authorities in regards to curricula expectations

Device Timeline �  November 9 – Deadline for purchase of BYOD devices for pre-Christmas pickup �  December 2 – Pre-Christmas devices to be made available

�  December 16 – Deadline for second round of device purchases

�  January 28 – School pickup for second round of devices

�  For pre-Christmas deliveries all orders need to be received by 9 November and will be brought to the school in one batch on 2 December 2013. They can then be individually collected on this date. If separate delivery is required this can be selected for a flat rate in metropolitan area under "delivery methods".

�  The school has negotiated special education deals on selected devices through CompNow. These are by no means the complete Apple Laptop offering but are the devices the school advises are most suitable for your students' school use. Any machines outside of this pricing would not attract the substantial discount of the bundles offered and are not available through the portal. Pre-existing devices

� Happy to support existing MacBook Pros and MacBook Air’s that parents may have purchased in the past.

� These devices must be running 10.8

operating systems.

Ancillary Equipment

drives should be brought to school. o Devices must be charged and ready

to use at the start of the day.

Support

� Pulteney Help Desk environment will continue to operate in 2014.

� Assistance will be provided in the area of; �  Network connection �  Printing issues �  Software issues �  Warranty issues (claims can be processed

through school)

Student Contract

� Students will be expected to enter into a contract regarding the use of ICT equipment at school.

� Contract to be signed at the start of the year as part of orientation day activities.

Appropriate Use Policy

�  General expectations will be outlined to students and parents regarding appropriate use of electronic devices in 2014.

Online Portal �  Special educational prices have been
