Numeracy Challenge 7 The Numeracy Challenge is back with a bang!

Firewords are fireworks that display words in the night sky. You can buy firewords to make any word but the cost depends on the letters in a word. A costs 1p, B costs 2p and so on until Z costs 26p. What word would cost £1? To enter the Weekly Numeracy Challenge, fill in an entry slip, and place into one of the Numeracy Challenge boxes, in Mr Binns’ classroom or the SLC.

diligent Adjective having or showing care and conscientiousness in one's work or duties Synonyms: industrous, hardworking, assiduous; conscientious, particular, punctilious, Meticulous, careful, thorough Antonyms: lazy, casual, careless, idle Example: The teacher praised the boy's diligent approach to his work.

Your challenge: Create the most interesting, lively and imaginative sentence you can using this word. Submit your entry in the box in the SLC. Well done to the 361 pupils who submitted entries for the competition for the week before the half-term break. Congratulations to the winner, Isla Martin of 7CO on her winning entry:

'Viciously, the wind howled down the streets and, being a callous master,

whipped the poor child while screaming with bloodthirsty rage.'

General Notices Blackpool Transport and Stagecoach services 7,11 and 68 As you may be aware, there are diversions in place in Blackpool affecting a number of bus routes. To ensure that you arrive at school on time, please catch an earlier bus than the one you normally catch. It is advisable to be at your stop 15 minutes earlier than you normally would. Early closure of school: School will close at 12.25pm on Friday, 17th November. No lunches will be served. In the event of 'wet buses' (Monday 12th): The Year 7 Settling-in meeting takes place during the afternoon of Monday, 13th November and the dining room is used for this event. If we get rain at the end of the afternoon, the pupils who normally line up in the dining room (passengers for the 916/570 and 598) are to line up at the back of the hall as directed by Mr Barnett. They should enter the hall via the door onto the yard by the sound desk. All other pupils should report to the classrooms as usual - 649 (room 1) and 688 (room 5).

Mr. Grice Thank you to everyone who was involved in preparing such a moving, dignified and prayerful Mass of Remembrance. The conduct of Year 9 was impeccable and our guests were very impressed by the respect shown to them and to all those who have served in the armed forces and sacrificed so much for our freedom.
