There was a magical land, where -

blue skies stretched foreveraround the bend, beyond the last songand waterfalls crashed onto ancient stonesto nourish never ending rivers

In the land of the hornbills, princesses from heavens, fairies with magical powers descended to walk among mankind, ensuring continued harmony and peace. Sarawak was the captivating eden on earth, the last frontier.Puteri Santubong and Puteri Sejinjang were the bravest warrior princesses. They were immortals, thus forever young, both formidable and beautiful at the same time. One day, their king, the mightiest ruler of them all, summoned them to his palace and asked them to gaze into his magical mirror. Its reflection showed them all happenings on earth.Santubong. Sejinjang. Look! What do you see?

The princesses looked at the mirror. They saw villages on earth. People were fighting. Children were left hungry. Work was left undone.I need you to stop the terrible and unnecessary fighting, said the king. Fly down to earth and make the people brothers once again. They must care for their families. You are emissaries of peace. Remember that. Otherwise all will be undone. The two fairy princesses then put on their magical wings and rode the winds towards earth. From their far-reaching gaze above, they saw only chaos and anger. They slowly descended at a clearing by the beach halfway between the two neighboring villages.Pasir Puteh was ruined by constant war. Its people, master weavers with magical hands, left precious looms out in the sun for months. Pasir Kuning also used to be bountiful, rich with paddy fields brimming with precious rice. Yet the village folk chose to be fools, fighting over obscure borders, leaving the rice to be eaten by rats, which left only its husks scattered all around.Mothers and babies of both lands wept and cried while kris and parang clashed.Into this chaos walked Puteri Santubong and Puteri Sejinjang. All suddenly looked up in wonder to see such graceful warriors who suddenly appeared and approaching them. Weapons fell in mid-fight. Santubong spoke of their loss and pain, of their families, wasted dreams and death, which was senseless. She urged the villagers to return home to their families and to come to their senses. The villagers, stunned and embarrassed, fought no more. They slowly looked at the broken looms and ruined paddy fields behind them. Wives and children, forlorn and sad, came forth with outstretched arms to beg their husbands and fathers to return home. With relief, the men returned and rebuilt their homes. Wary traders came back to the hills and trade prospered. The neighbouring villagers loved their saviours, Santubong and Sejinjang, and revered them in every manner possible. In time, Santubong came to cherish her charge, Pasir Puteh, more and more. She fell in love with a mortal prince named Putra Damak. Unknown to her, Sejinjang had also fallen prey to the princes charms.Santubong earlier revealed her heart in jest to Sejinjang, Putra Damak is very charming and handsome, in a human kind of way, Sejinjang. Dont you think so, cousin? Sejinjang just smiled. She hardly noticed Santubongs serious tone of voice. She herself had fallen hard for the prince. When Santubong found out, she felt betrayed. She strode to Pasir Kuning in the midst of the harvest festival and accused her cousin of betrayal. The people cowered in terror to see their guardians battling each other in rage. For seven days thunderbolts and dreadful hammers clashed and clanged and the very earth was shaken to its core. Then Sejinjang struck Santubong on her royal forehead. Santubong reeled from the heavy blow. Deep anger kept her from falling and she struck Sejinjang back.It was then that the king arose from his reverie up in the heavens. The din and commotion on earth had disturbed his meditation.Santubong! Sejinjang! They have forgotten their mission and purpose. This is a tragedy! He quickly dashed down to save the princesses. But there was no stopping a curse. Santubong suddenly found she could not move and Sejinjang fled the mountains in shame only stopping to cry by the sea when she suddenly realized they were doomed. The mountains grew wilder and hid Santubong within their treacherous wake.Sejinjangs bleeding wounds left a trail of islands in their wake. The two warrior princesses were never seen again. And the mountain looms in the horizon.
