‘Where minds come to grow’

14 September 2018

I have received overwhelming positive feedback following our time with Martin Heppell as a part of The Resilience Program. Thank-you to those parents that attended the sessions, I know many of you were really touched by Martin’s message and were impressed with the overall focus of the program.

Over the remainder of the year teachers will be working with students and their planning teams to continue to build their understanding and to focus on the key messages of The Resilience Program. At the beginning of 2019 students will receive their student workbook that will support the work of the Resilience Project well into next year and beyond.

If the person picking up the child is not known to office staff they will be required to provide photo identification and, if prior arrangements have not been made, office staff will contact parents to ensure they have permission to remove the child from school. When collecting children during the school day please ensure they are not collected during recess or lunch times. As you can image, the children become so engrossed in their play that they are not focused on listening for their name to be called which often results in lengthy delays. Recess and lunch time occurs across the school from: 11:00 – 11.30am (Recess) 1:45 – 2:15pm (Lunchtime).

Please be informed that enrolments at Burnside PS have been reviewed to now include all primary year levels when it opens next year, term 1 2019. If parents, who live in the designated neighbourhood area of the new school, are interested in enrolling Years 3 to 6 students they should contact the principal, Davide Lombardi at [email protected] This includes parents who have previously been unsuccessful in applying for enrolment places for children in these age groups. Their applications will now be considered.

thank you for your ongoing support and partnership with the School. I wish all of our families a safe and restful holiday and we will see you ready for another great term on Monday 8th October.

The annual Victorian State Schools Spectacular is an invaluable performing arts opportunity for Victoria’s government school students. It encourages creative skills, discipline, perseverance and confidence over months of rehearsals.

celebrations Term 3

This year the theme for NAIDOC week was ‘Because of her, we can”. NAIDOC week was celebrated here at Kororoit Creek at the beginning of this term, in Week two. Students engaged in a number of fun activities and research tasks in their classrooms to celebrate the rich history of Indigenous Australians. Here are some examples of the fine work produced by our talented students.

They are all on display in the gym, so next time you are able to come to assembly, please have a look at the display of student work.

Sports update Divisional Basketball Tournament

On Friday the 31st of August our girls’ basketball team represented KCPS in the District Basketball tournament. The girls were really excited yet nervous for the games as we entered the stadium ready to play a round robin. After 2 wins and a loss we just snuck into the finals. The first 30 seconds of the game everyone was on edge waiting to see who would score first. After the first few shots made by our girls we were pumped and ready to win. After half time we were eager to get back on court and won with a result of 10 – 4. The girls showed great sportsmanship and team-work and are so excited to make it through to the divisional stage. Well done girls.

Divisional Athletics Competition On Tuesday the 4th of September, 22 KCPS students travelled to Keilor Athletics Track to take on the Keilor Divisions’ best athletes. The students were excited to get to the track and give it their best effort. KCPS had the most competitors out of any school attending the competition which is a credit to the student’s hard work at training throughout the term. Hi, let me introduce myself. My name is Amanda Stevenson and I am the Owner and Business operator of Optimum Fitness. I have four children, of which three attend school here whilst my eldest is now in secondary school. I’m so very excited to announce that I am bringing a kids fitness program to Kororoit Creek Primary School - OPTIKIDS Fitness. This program will be suitable for all primary school children and promises to be lots of fun - with games, activities, exercise and anything that gets our kids moving and active. I am extremely passionate about Health and Fitness and believe it is so important for our children to grow up knowing the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Australia is currently experiencing a Child Obesity epidemic with 1 in 4 children not meeting the daily recommended activity level. It is important for us as adults and parents to provide and encourage our young children to get active and healthy so that they make it a general practice in their daily lives, and continue this right up into adulthood. Morning exercise and activity has been proven to improve in people’s concentration, attention and overall mood. What better way for our kids to start their school day!

2018 Colour Run Wow!!!! The Colour Run proved to be a hit with the students. The day was a huge success with many children walking away with huge smiles and completely covered in coloured powder. Thank you to the Student Leadership Team for your help over the two days and a special mention to Bronwyn and Amanda who helped made the day run smoothly. It was great to see parents and family at the event and I hope you were able to capture the fun. Fundraising online has been phenomenal and we encourage families to continue raising funds for the school. Fundraising online will end on October 21st and all money raised in cash is to be handed into the office before the end of term. Make sure you get your prize orders in by the 12th October. Late submissions will not be accepted online. Thank you again to our community for your ongoing support. Beck Werchon Leading Teacher

Hi parents and carers,

Just an update for the whole school Camp Quality Incursion. Due to unforeseen

circumstances, the incursion will now be occurring on the 20th of November.

Many families within our school community have been affected by Cancer and as you

may know, we have a student who is currently undergoing treatment.

Camp Quality provide Primary School Education program that uses vivacious and

loveable puppets, Kylie, Dean and Melissa to help support children affected by cancer.

This program has been in operation since 1988 and shares an interactive and engaging

narrative that explains:

• The ins and outs of cancer • Why their peer who has undergone treatment may look a little different (due to the side

effects of chemotherapy) • Why it’s important to be supportive of their classmate who is either living with cancer or

has a diagnosed parent or sibling • That cancer isn’t contagious, so it’s ok to play • The importance of positivity and recognising our own strengths

This live, educational performance will also focuses on optimism, friendship and

tolerance.

The incursion will occur at no cost to the school, parents or students and is a great

opportunity for our students to learn how to create a supportive school community for

their peers who may be affected by cancer.

Following the performance, students are encouraged to ask questions and share their

concerns. If any concerns arise after the performance, please feel free to contact Camp

Quality or see one of the Assistant Principals.

If you would like more information about the program or would like to see a clip of the

puppets in action, please visit www.campquality.org.au/for-teachers. You’re also

welcome to contact the puppet team by emailing Camp Quality at

[email protected] or by calling 1300 662 267.

If you have any questions or concerns about this incursion, please see one of the

Assistant Principals.
