Please give a full description of the proposed event/project:(continue on a separate sheet ifnecessary)

Twenty five years ago, when the first Pensioners Alone at Christmas Party was held,Pauline Hart did not dream that a party could give so much happiness to so manypeople.

Many senior citizens found themselves alone because their families had movedaway. Christmas has always been a time when people enjoy getting together butmany were now alone. Since 1984 a special Christmas Day party has beenorganised for elderly residents who would have otherwise spent the day alone.

Each Christmas we meet many new volunteers and guests to enjoy the day with.Volunteers are asked to attend from 12.00pm until 5:30pm and jobs includeassisting with food preparation, looking after the guests during the party, serving tea, washing up etc.

We also collect guests from their homes and return them at the end of the day.

We hire minibuses to enable us to collect people as many use wheelchairs andwalking frames. We cook a wonderful traditional Christmas dinner for our guests andvolunteers and give all guests presents to take home.

Pensioners Alone At Christmas (PMC) is an independently-run registered charity, funded by donations from local businesses such as Singapore Airlines and PositiveThinking, and organised by volunteers.

We plan to make our 25th Christmas Day Party special.

The party starts at 1.30pm and finishes at 4.30pm at Chiswick Day Care Centre,Bridge Street, Chiswick W4 5UF

How do you know there is a need for this project?

As we are an independently run local charity there is always a need to fund raise. The more money we have to spend, the better the party can be and the more partieswe can hold in the future.

Without local funding, we would not be able to produce this great event.

Please state the detailed timetable for planning the proposed project/event:

Planning for the Christmas Day Party starts in September each year during aCommittee Meeting. We meet to decide the planning of the party including designingand sending out invitations and volunteers letters, food ordering, presents for guests, transport and mini-bus drivers, activities or entertainment such as Carol Singing andGuess How Many Sweets In A Jar.

We then hold a second Committee Meeting in November to check everything is ontrack and any additional plans or ideas are raised.

We then arrive at the Chiswick Day Support Centre where the party is held, onChristmas Eve to setup the building for our party and take delivery of the food. Weprepare the gift bags, and organise the furniture so we can accommodate more inthe dining area.

On Christmas Day, the committee start work at 1Dam with the first job being puttingthe 8 Turkeys in the oven! We then spend the day working with local volunteersorganising car drivers to help transport the guests to the Day Centre, assisting withfood preparation, serving tea, chatting to the guests and washing up.

Our day finishes around 7pm after we have taken the last guests home, returned themini-buses we hired from the local Community Transport branches, and made surethe Day Centre building is left clean and tidy.

Are there any particular sections of the community who will benefit?

Senior Citizens in Chiswick, anyone who is on their own for Christmas of any age, either as a volunteer or a guest.

Some local residents in sheltered housing do not leave their units, we provide themwith a Christmas Day Party with a delicious Christmas Dinner and a present to takehome.
