“Tribrid:”
Fuel for Leadership
Steam locomotives fi ll my earliest memories of family travel in southern India. Those fi re-breathing engines required frequent stops to replenish the fuel and water. The sound and sights of whistle, steam and smoke fascinated me. Steam engineers controlled the start,
the stop and the speed. The fi remen fed the fi re with fuel. No fuel, no fi re. They let neither the fi re die, nor the fuel run out between stops.Fuel-starvation and fuel-exhaustion
present challenges to all modes of
transportation. The former has to do with a defi ciency in the fuel system; there is enough fuel, but it doesn’t translate into energy. The latter deals with a loss of fuel supply—running out of fuel before reaching the destination.Hybrid vehicles today overcome
both challenges through auxiliary fuel, additional power. Two fuel sources work in combination, converting wasted energy into power stored in a battery till it is needed. What if I told you that you are a tribrid—a

Surprise Init iat ive from a Dallas GPA Master Coach
8 | R R E A C H Q 3 2 0 1 5
Each year Ramesh Richard invites presidents or deans of leading seminaries and graduate schools to serve as “Master Coaches” at the Dallas Global Proclamation Academy. This year, one Master Coach, the Chancellor of a major Christian university and a global leader in missions, surprised and encouraged Dr. Richard by sending the following letter to two potential donor friends at his own initiative. We wish to share his manner of thinking and approach with you.
I know you doubtless receive tons of requests for funding, more than you can possibly read and consider, but I am asking if you would please read the following paragraphs. This,by the way, has nothing to do with[my organization]. It is, however, something that I, as a missionary statesman, think you should seriously and prayerfully consider.
Knowing that you always seek to prayerfully invest in ventures that willenable the Great Commission to be fulfi lled locally and internationally, I am writing, unsolicited, to tell you about a strategic initiative that is already having
worldwide impact for the spread of the Gospel and the growth of the church.
My good friend and fellow preacher of the Gospel, Dr. Ramesh Richard, has become keenly aware of the fact that, though the Gospel is spreading rapidly in many parts of the world (especially in the Majority World of developing countries), the spiritual depth of many believers and churches is quite shallow and subject to all sorts of error and false teaching. He has, therefore, launched a worldwide training program for young, upcoming Majority World pastors, a program that grounds them in God’s Word and trains them in practical ministry skills.
For many years now, Ramesh has raised the funds to bring to Dallas, Texas, every June a group of 25developing world pastors (they are required to raise half of their own airfare, a big sacrifi ce for many of them) for three weeks of intensive training under the guidance of experienced “Master Coaches.” I am one of those “Master Coaches” and have had the privilege of participating in this training program. Ramesh is doing this in other countries, too.
The result is that hundreds of developing world pastors have now been trained, and those pastors (5,000 of them!) will be coming together for a strategic conference in Bangkok, Thailand, next year. In my humble opinion, this conference will be even more strategic than the Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization in 2010. In a sense, the Bangkok pastors’ conference will be a climax of all the training that has been happening in recent years, but it will also be the commencement of an even greater tmultiplication of training in the years to come….
Would you please look over the information on this Congress? Would you be willing to let Ramesh Richard come there to share with you, face-to-face, his vision and burden for this strategic initiative? … Even if you don’t get involved fi nancially (though I pray you will consider it), this is something VERY important that you need to know about as you continue your investment in the progress of the Great Commission.
Warmly in our Savior,Dallas GPA Master Coach, 20155
VISIONRREACH envisions changing the way

RREACH was overwhelmed by the response to a recent request to help us provide 1,000 copies ofDr. Richard’s book Preparing Expository Sermons, to be distributed via The Gospel Coalition’s Theological Famine Relief project.Because of the generosity of RREACH
friends, we more than raised our requested amount, allowing us to send over and above our 1,000-book goal. The Gospel Coalition has received the books, and they are ready to go out to pastors around the world. For the past 20 years, Preparing Expository Sermons has equipped thousands of global pastoral leaders through Dallas Seminary, the Dallas GPA, national GPAs and other pastors conferences. Its fi rst edition was listed among the top 25 books on preaching in the last 25 years by Preaching Magazine. A video explaining how The Gospel
Coalition will get Preparing Expository Sermons and other needed theological resources into the hands of the pastors who need them can be found atwww.packinghope.io.

GPA TanzaniaThe GPA value of having a clear schedule and adhering to it was a memorable
lesson for GPA Tanzania delegates. Organizers Pastor S and Pastor M kept the national GPA pace without leaving anyone behind. “GPA has made me know that keeping time is possible,” one pastor said. “I have appreciated my facilitators. They are good, patient, not willing to leave someone behind but moving forward after all had understood. It has cost them a lot of energy.”The 34 delegates, from different denominations and distant places (some
traveling 36 hours by bus), gathered March 19 – 28 in Dar Es Salaam. Working through the seven steps of Scripture Sculpture deepened their confi dence in preaching the Word of God and desire to pass along what they learned. Primary facilitator Pastor S said, “What a joy to be one of the peer coaches. We are grateful to have invested our lives in reproducing more pastors’ trainers across the country.”
GPA PeruGPA Peru was “fresh pasture” for the 24 pastors who met April 16 – 25 at
Palabra de Vida (Word of Life) Camp near Cañete, Peru, south of Lima. “Thanks to God because He always gives us fresh pasture. That is exactly what this time has been for us; a time where we enjoyed the fresh pasture of God’s Word, with the method of expository preaching,” said Pastor A.The pastors were eager to apply what they learned in their churches, teach it
to their church leaders, and share it with others. One plans to hold small GPAs

Ramesh’s role at Dallas Seminary is temporarily restructured in view of the 2016 Global Proclamation Congress for Pastoral Trainers. Instead of semester-long teaching, he now serves in worldwiderepresentation of the Seminary as Professor of Global Theological Engagement and Pastoral Ministries. In addition to RREACH’s organizational demands in leadership and fundraising, numerous speaking engagements and ministry projects continue to develop throughout the year. Due to the nature of overseas work, all dates, locations and formats are subject to change. Please pray for divine protection, competence, and effectiveness on this servant and his family.

There He Goes…Again: Personal ProclamationCongress for Pastoral Trainers. Approximately 300 days remain until this massive, momentum-accelerating, mid-point event of the Global Proclamation Commission.
Over the past months, prayerful efforts have gleaned affi rmation for the GProCongress from multiple international leaders and organizations. Lausanne and the World Evangelical Alliance, among others, have signed on as Congress Advocates. The president of Moody Bible Institute, Dr. Paul Nyquist, invited Dr. Richard to publicize the Congress in fi ve fi ve-minute segments at the annual Moody Pastors Conference in May.
As additional spontaneous support, a Dallas GPA Master Coach wrote two key contacts introducing Dr. Richard and the GProCommission. “In a sense, the Bangkok pastors’ conference will be a climax of all the training that has been happening in recent years, but it will also be the commencement of an even greater multiplication of training in the years to come,” he said. See pg. 8 for an excerpt of the letter.
Bondslave, part of Vagabondslave, Dr. Richard’s coined word for this year, connotes three aspects of relationship to His Master:
• Availability for the what• Surrender to the how• Abandonment on the whom“I am to be available for God’s
purposes, surrendered to His methods, and abandoned on His sovereignty,” Ramesh says.
That statement partially explains why he had more than 40 offi cial engagements across four continents, eight countries (two of them visited twice), 11 international cities (two cities twice), and fi ve U.S. cities—not counting Dallas, the three-week Dallas GPA, and numerous other activities—during the fi rst six months of 2015. Every trip, every engagement is a purposeful investment of his time, energy and focus toward his gifting and calling—global proclamation of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The strategic element taking up most of Ramesh’s time, energy and focus these days is the Global Proclamation
God also answered prayer for the Congress program, supplying a team of infl uential ministry leaders, including a program manager referred by Saddleback Church. The team must discern within a short period of time the right people to lead the platform, forums, discussion groups and workshops.
GProCongress mobilization has been the primary impetus behind Ramesh’s intensive schedule, but God keeps fueling his fl ame to proclaim the Word. In Manila for Congress mobilization, he spoke at an apologetics event anticipated to gather 35 young people. Not only did 300 show up, they wanted him to keep going after an hour and a half, and then they wanted photo ops.
“I was dead on my feet,” he quipped. But as always, God saw him through. It helped that his oldest son, Ryan, who had asked to travel with his dad, was there to “rescue” him. The trip with Ryan brought back good memories. They stayed in the same YMCA in Hong Kong as they had on a trip together 20 years prior (when Ryan was 12 and Ramesh was...? ).
R R E A C H Q 3 2 0 1 5 | 1 3
A conference speaking engagement in Boston hosting North American Chinese leaders and seminarians provided Dr. Richard opportunity to reconnect with an infl uential hotel manager he had fi rst met in Mumbai, India, in 2009.
In the fall of 2008 terrorists bombed India’s most famous hotel, the Taj Mahal Mumbai. Its manager, instrumental in saving many, lost his own wife and children. At the hotel six months later for a speaking engagement, Dr. Richard asked to meet the manager and learned it was the man’s fi rst offi cial day back following the bombing. During much of that meeting they sat in silence; Dr. Richard, in quiet empathy, forged a bond with this man whose prominent position and personal convictions could not answer his grief.
This man is one of many in whom Ramesh prayerfully, patiently and purposefully sows and cultivates the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ. Although the hotel manager has not yet crossed the threshold of salvation, many have. One recently wrote to Ramesh, “I was looking
for the Ramesh Richard of 43 years ago…. I vividly remember the day you encouraged me to accept the Lord.”
After the devastating earthquakes in Nepal, many rightly stepped in to provide physical relief. Dr. Richard’s heart went out to those ministering on the front-
lines—local pastors. About a month after the fi rst quake, with the support of generous RREACH friends, he made a special stop in Kathmandu for a day of
encouragement with these self-sacrifi cing servants. Nearly 200 Nepali pastors and wives, as many as organizers could accommodate, attended.
Just a week later, he spoke to 4,000 Christian leaders at the National Congress for Evangelism in Thailand.
They have a vibrant vision for evangelization in the staunchly Buddhist nation, already implementing a plan to expose 10 million to the Gospel by the end of 2015. Dr. Richard then came back to spend the majority of June pouring into the 26 2015 Dallas GPA delegates from 26 different countries.
During his fi rst trip of the year, Ramesh found a luggage tag sporting the word “Vagabond,” referring to one who wanders from place to place. “That’s me,” he thought.
As the Master would have it, Vagabond and Bondslave, two almost contradictory terms,
fuse into a description that uniquely fi ts Ramesh Richard: available, surrendered, abandoned and globally on the go in his Master’s calling and gifting.

Robby Richard assisted Pastor D, the sole Dallas GPA grad from Peru (2006), with the event. Pastor E said, “I thank the churches and all of the GPA team in the USA and in the world who are promoting this ministry that I think is of great infl uence and of great service to the evangelical community.”

delegates gathered in Bandung, the capital of West Java, Indonesia, April 23 – May 2, for an “enlightening” GPA Indonesia. The balance
of deep learning with connecting in a relaxed, bonding atmosphere made a lasting impression on the pastors. “I was amazed on how the specially put event achieved Connecting, Enriching and Training at such a high level,” one attendee said. The practical arrangements—meals, in particular—were also a blessing. At the outset
of implementing Dallas and national GPAs, Dr. Richard determined to give pastors excellent-without-being-excessive treatment. GPA Indonesia delegates appreciated the “good, healthy food” they received. At the same time, they worked hard. “The discipline to prepare a sermon is rigorous, and I have never realized that,” one said.
“Each step makes a lot of sense, and when it is put together, you can really see how consistent and biblical each sermon will be.”

GPA BeninGPA Benin delegates, like their GPA Tanzania brothers, were motivated by
the GPA highly intentional stewardship of time. “Nothing happens which was not scheduled, and we have a lesson to learn for our daily pastoral ministry,” Pastor A said. Praying, sharing life and playing games in a context of learning melded into a highly benefi cial and bonding experience. Pastor M, 2013 Dallas GPA grad from Burundi, came alongside Pastor J, 2006
Dallas GPA grad from Benin, to organize the April 29 – May 8 event and teach Scripture Sculpture. It was held near the capital city of Porto Novo, yet far enough from distractions for the group to focus and fi nish well. Sadly, although 32 pastors got together, only 31 were able to graduate. One brother had to leave early because of his wife’s illness. “We now have a big community of dedicated pastors who will preach every Sunday expository messages for the welfare of their church community,” organizers reported.
GPA CambodiaIn the 25 years since a measure of peace has come to their country,
Cambodians have come to joke about the many land mines that remain. However, distrust still pervades society, including in the young church. Pastor S, Dallas GPA 2014, did an outstanding job of assembling 31 pastors and pastoral trainers from all 25 provinces for GPA Cambodia May 15 – 23. The Master Coaches also comprised some of the top Christian leaders in the country.Because of the upcoming GProCongress, Pastor S concentrated on inviting
pastoral trainers, which gave greater exposure to Dr. Richard’s Scripture Sculpture method as a tool for training in expository preaching. Delegates p y p g g

were highly skilled—and competitive—in soccer, their game of choice for team-building. Ever intentional, Pastor S explained, “We experienced how to be a pastoral striver for the Word of God, for the Lord’s Mission, and caring for His fl ock.”Please pray for those who have
graduated from national GPAs to remain connected, united and strengthened as they minister and train others. Also pray for the upcoming national GPAs (see map to the right) for protection, guidance and empowerment. “Please pray for this ministry. It means so much to us. We need this,” appealed Pastor E, Lebanon, of Dallas GPA 2015. He will be helping with the national GPA in Lebanon, the Lord willing, in late August.

M a j e s t y i n t h e M i d s t o f M i s e r y : A n U p d a t e f r o m N e p a lAbout 10,000 souls perished in the massive earthquakes of April 25 and May
12 in the beautiful land of Nepal. In late May, RREACH was privileged to bring 197 pastors and wives together for a day of refreshment.
This powerful day for pastors and wives restored their souls and bodies, minds and spirits. Having out-spent their energies ministering to their communities, we strengthened pastoral leaders with spiritual comfort and physical care too. They shared testimonies of how the Lord shielded them in the intense suffering and is shepherding them into the future. They sang and prayed, even smiled and ate well for the fi rst time in weeks—while “we were experiencing aftershocks.” Dr. Richard was also able to deliver a small (for us, but large for them) love gift to each of the pastors in attendance, because of the generosity of RREACH’s friends. These pastors and their families continue to serve the Lord faithfully, bringing relief to their land in the name, spirit and truth of the Lord Jesus. As you might know, Nepal is one of the great “success” stories of the Christian Faith of the last half-a-century.
One pastor who attended the gathering wrote to Dr. Richard:Thank you very much for your words from God. The Word of God gives us strength to be patient and new in Christ in this
horrible situation. Your love gift gives us relief in our family too. Until now, we were serving relief to others who are in need through our church. But today God sent you to serve us. Thank you very much for this love gift through you. It really supports us in our daily living. We were just talking about our spending this whole month. Because of your love gift, it makes relief for daily life. Thank you once again. God bless you and your family along with your team and ministry.
Another wrote: I am very happy I got the chance to hear your precious preaching…Really speaking, God displays HIS Majesty in the midst
of misery. I liked your sermon (especially that the health of the pastor affects the health of the Church and the health of the Church affects the society) very much.
Dr. Richard’s message of hope and healing resonated with these pastors who were able to offer authentic praise to the Lord in this sad and diffi cult time. As another pastor reiterated, “Surely God can demonstrate His glory even in our misery, as you said.”

are so anxious to succeed and do the right things theologically. But in this GPA training, everything is oriented mainly for God and His kingdom, as my studies are really meaningful. In addition, the vast experience of each master coach allows them to steer the young pastors that we are, so we can do just what touches the heart of God. After the fi rst two days, I fell before the Lord and I threw all my degrees in front of him as old men in the Apocalypse threw their crowns. For sure I will go back different.
Delegates to the 2015 Dallas GPA came from the following countries: Albania, Brazil, Cambodia, Costa Rica, DR Congo, Grenada, Haiti, Honduras, Hungary, Indonesia, Ivory Coast, Lebanon, Lithuania, Mongolia, Niger,
Nigeria, Panama, Romania, South Africa, St.Vincent and the Grenadines, Syria, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda and Zambia. They graduated and returned to their home countries connected, united and strengthened. This was an incredible answer to prayer, as 15 Dallas GPA candidates were denied US visas. Nevertheless,
the Lord was faithful to bring together the right 26 pastors for the 2015 Dallas GPA. Five were even from countries new to the GPA!
Their time in Dallas was full of meaningful experiences, both inside and outside of the classroom. From intense times of prayer and study to exciting trips to the lake and a Texas rodeo, the Dallas GPA pastors had a very full three weeks. Not only are these men now better equipped to think, live and preach biblically, but they have also gained
a network of brothers worldwide. The Lord willing, they will remain lifelong friends and ministry partners. We are immensely grateful to all who participated in the 2015 Dallas GPA, through prayer, fi nancial partnership and other means. To God be the glory!
