This artice re4ie5 discusses on t5o 6uaitati4e research in !ngish as 7oreign

    1anguage (!71) conte8t consisting of Ja+anese and Jordanian anguage -ackground. A

ot of si#iarities coud -e identified in -oth research 5here it focused on the affecti4e

factors of students earning +erfor#ance. The research to+ic of -oth studies highightedon the interna ee#ents of !71 students in earning anguage 5here #ost of the# did not

ha4e high #oti4ation and did not e8+osed to the -est 5a* of anguage earning strategies.

This to+ic is rea* significant to the de4eo+#ent of anguage earning es+ecia* in !71

conte8t. In the second artice, the authors e4en e8tended the artices significance -*

    co#+aring ho5 !ngish nati4e s+eakers earn !ngish different* fro# the Ara-ics. The

authors aso +ro4ided a detaied -ackground of infor#ation reated to reading an8iet*

fro# other countries to highight the significance of the research in the Jordanian conte8t

to #ake the readers understand the genera o4er4ie5 of the research.

The research +ro-e# in the first artice 5as discussed -rief* as the needs to kno5

the -est strategies to -eco#e good anguage earners are i#+ortant fro# the authors

5as not a singe +ro+er research -eing done to address the reading an8iet* issue in the

Jordanian conte8t. Thus, this research ai#ed to contri-ute to fi this ga+.

;nfortunate*, for the research 6uestions, the first artice did not +ro4ide a cear

research 6uestion so that the readers need to read through the artice to identif* the #ain

     +ro-e# that 5i -e reso4ed in the research. res5e (2009) e8+ained that research

6uestion is the centra ee#ent of a research and it #akes the theoretica assu#+tions in

    the fra#e5ork #ore e8+icit, #ost of a it indicates 5hat the researcher 5ants to kno5

    #ost and first. oote and

    >eie (200?), iterature re4ie5 needs to -e discussed critica* to sho5 5here the research

fits into the e8isting -od* of kno5edge and ena-e the researcher to earn fro# +re4ious

theor* on the to+ic. The researcher of the first research had isted so#e research

concerning the to+ic on ho5 to -e good foreign anguage earners -ut did not s+ecifica*

    #entioned ho5 the strategies shoud -e conducted in the cassroo# conte8t. It sho5s that

the to+ic 5as not -eing discussed in de+th -ased on +re4ious studies.

The second artice +ro4ided a co#+rehensi4e -ackground research on reading

    an8iet* to conduct a research in Jordanian !71 conte8t s+ecifica* to5ards @ar#ouk

;ni4ersit* students. This research +re+ared an interesting 6uaitati4e data -ecause it had

-een focused into reading since the +re4ious research co4ered #ain* on s+eaking ski

    to5ards reading -* co#+aring +re4ious research on different conte8ts. =o5e4er, the

+re4ious research conducted on reading an8iet* discussed in the artice 5ere #ain*

using 6uantitati4e data to +resent the resut of the research. ithout disregard the

i#+ortance of 6uantitati4e data in disco4ering the factors that contri-ute to reading

    an8iet*, this research ga4e a different +ers+ecti4e in understanding the to+ic -* using

    6uaitati4e data. >* using 6uaitati4e a++roach, the readers coud see a #ore detaied and

une8+ained factors such as cuture and socio -ackground that cannot -e acco#+ished

    soe* through nu#-ers and statistics.

    >oth research sho5ed that #ini#a 6uaitati4e research ha4e -een conducted in

disco4ering the affecti4e factors in anguage earning issue es+ecia* in !71 conte8t. It

#a* -e due to a co#+icated and detaied data coection that needs to -e e4auated and

ana*sed -* the researcher. The issue concerning students #oti4ation and interna factors

are aso sti ree4ant to -e discussed since the iterature re4ie5 +ro4ided -* -oth research

are current and u+ to date. Thus, it he+s the readers to -e 5einfor#ed 5ith the +ur+ose

    of the stud*.

    ethods

It is 5orth to #ention that the first research artice in4o4ed a arge nu#-er of

    res+ondents 5hich 5ere %0. The* 5ere cai#ed as Bsuccessfu anguage earnersB

-ecause the* had +roduced their o5n -ooks on Bho5 I ha4e earned a foreign anguageB,

thus, the data 5ere ana*sed fro# those -ooks. =o5e4er, these characteristics did not

    see# too con4incing to cai# the# as good anguage earners. 7ick (2009) argued that

the indi4iduait* and sefdeter#ination of the researcher in the 6uaitati4e research

    a++roach coud for# a singe, cohesi4e #ethodoogica a++roach and resuting in s#a

    sco+e resuts. The researcher #a* +ro4ide -etter infor#ation -* stating #ore detaied

+ersona infor#ation a-out the +artici+ants other than the* had +roduce -ooks on the

good anguage earners to+ic. The #ethodoog* used -* the researcher aso 5as rea*

si#+e as the researcher Cust e8tracted the data fro# the -ooks he read. It 5oud -e -etter

if he in4ited others 5ho are s+ecified in anguage earning fied to read the -ooks too in

order to #aintain the reia-iit* and 4aidit* of the resut.

of the research and e8+and the findings of the stud*. According to the $ationa Acade#*

    of !ducation (%999), reco##endations 5i connect research and +ractice #ore direct*

through the -uiding of a cu#uati4e kno5edge -ase that ser4es -oth sets of interests.

7urther#ore, it is essentia to recogniGe that the research done -ring +ositi4e i#+acts

indirect* through the infuence of the e8isting kno5edge. 7uture researchers coud

i#+ro4e the first research -* inter4ie5ing the authors of the -ooks and identif* the -est

strategies of good anguage earners -* the data coected 5hie for the second artice, the

readers coud e8tract the reco##endations needed fro# the suggestions and i#+ications

    of the stud* isted.

    oncusions

In concusion, -oth research ha4e +ro4ided a good o4er4ie5 in understanding

the affecti4e factors of anguage earning in Ja+anese and Jordanian !17 conte8t. The

    first artice needs to -e i#+ro4ised to +ro4ide #ore co#+rehensi4e and reia-e data so

that it coud -e a good reference to those 5ho are interested in e8+oring the affecti4e

factors and strategies of good anguage earners. As for the second research artice, the

researchers had +resented an incusi4e data 5ith detaied #ethodoog* for others to

    re+icate the data 5ithout #aCor change. It is ho+ed that this research re4ie5 5i +ro4ide

a credita-e feed-ack in understanding -oth research -etter.
