EXPECTATIONS
Premium AR with View Protect™ is a flagship product for HOYA, and as such they wish to protect the quality
of the brand. If the coating does not fall within the designed specifications, it is technically not HOYA
Premium AR.
As the process technical partner for the HOYA Premium AR coating, Quantum has the responsibility of
evaluating and assisting the lab to keep the coating within set forth specifications.
There are several expectations that HOYA and Quantum have for the lab, with the intent to assure that the
HOYA Premium AR coating meets or exceeds consumer requirements. The expectations include:
Keeping the HOYA Premium AR coating within specified performance characteristics
Following best practice procedures as outlined by equipment vendors, Quantum and HOYA
Providing machine access to Quantum for run monitoring, troubleshooting and process correction
Lab access provided to Quantum to evaluate and help lab with continuous improvement
Responsive communication between lab, Quantum and HOYA
Adherence to the Quality Assurance Program
HOYA PREMIUM AR COATING SPECIFICATIONS
The HOYA Premium AR coating has a very specific set of performance specifications that make it “HOYA
Premium AR.” The characteristics of these performance specifications are evaluated with standard lens testing
practices. The coating is expected to meet the following performance characteristics.
HOYA PREMIUM AR PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS
Peak Wave: CX and CC between 525nm and 545nm
Peak Reflectance: Both CX and CC less than 1.5%
Average Bayer Abrasion: Score of 5 or higher
Water Contact Angle: Score of 110 or above
Salt Water Boil: Score of 3 after 3 boils
Hardcoat Thickness: 4-6 microns
BEST PRACTICES
To maintain quality, the lab is expected to follow best practices as outlined by machine vendors, Quantum and
HOYA.
Machine vendors should have provided the lab with specific best practices to follow for their
equipment.
Quantum will provide the lab with a best practices guide and training to reinforce behaviors, and assist
the lab in creating new procedures in the event vendor information is not available. See Quantum’s AR
Coating Manual for more detail.
HOYA may outline best practices as required.

EXPECTATIONS
ACCESS PROVISIONS
It is expected that the lab will work with Quantum and HOYA for access to the lab and equipment as needed
for assistance, troubleshooting and performance monitoring.
Machine Access
It is expected that the lab will provide Quantum remote access to equipment. Quantum process
engineers will need remote access to the machine for troubleshooting, adjustments and monitoring.
This access is solely intended to assist the lab in maintaining coating quality.
Lab Access
It is expected that the lab will work with Quantum to provide process engineers access to the lab to
monitor performance, assist with troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
Responsive Communication
It is expected that the lab will be responsive to communication with Quantum. Communication with the
lab is essential for maintaining the quality of the HOYA Premium AR coating, as this communication
may include process adjustments or information gathering as a result of quality assurance reports.
QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM
It is important for the HOYA brand that the product you are sending out performs well. Additionally, as your
partner in success, we want to make sure that you are sending out a high quality product and that you do not
have additional expenses associated with warranty returns. In order to have these assurances, HOYA and
Quantum have specific requirements to assist in making sure that the coating produced meets intended
specifications.
Our evaluation process that will assure that your customers are receiving the high quality product they deserve,
while both building and protecting your name in the marketplace as a producer of high quality products. This
starts at the install phase and continues long after our process engineers have departed your facility.
During the install process, the process engineer will conduct a series of coating evaluations for the installed
coatings. These onsite testing results will help the engineer to determine if the coating meets the intended
specifications.
Once the engineer is satisfied with the newly installed coating meeting the
intended specifications, he or she will run lenses that will be sent back to
Quantum’s Quality Assurance Lab to confirm that the coatings, in fact,
meet specifications utilizing a series of tests which may include, but are
not limited to: Bayer Abrasion, Water Contact Angle (WCA), Spectral
Analysis (including: hardcoat thickness, peak wave value, UV, %
reflectance, % transmission, color), QUV, Real Life Simulation (RLS),
Eraser Abrasion, Salt Water Boil (SWB), CHOCA and Haze.
Page | 9
EXPECTATIONS
Based on the results of the tests run at the QA lab, the process engineer will determine the next steps.
Diligently following best practices and procedures is the surest way to assure a quality product, but it is equally
important to perform daily testing to catch any issues that may occur with process quality.
Our objective is to get in front of any potential issues resulting in coating quality to fall out of acceptable
specifications. Your assistance with the program is extremely important. The lab is expected to complete daily
quality assurance testing and report the results to Quantum on a daily basis. Quantum will provide standard
operating procedures and train the lab to perform, record and report the tests.
The tests to perform each day are as follows, please see the Quality Assurance Testing Module in Quantum’s
AR Coating Manual for more details about each test:
Goodness of Fit (Color Repeatability)
The Goodness of Fit (GOF) evaluation will take place using a spectrophotometer (preferably
Filmetrics) to determine if the coating meets both the spectral color and % reflectance standards
for the designated coating.
We ask that you record your Goodness of Fit results daily and submit them to Quantum using
our online form. If you have failure or questionable results, please contact Quantum
immediately.
Salt Water Boil (SWB)
This is an environmental test to assess the robustness of an AR coating, its ability to adhere to a
hardcoat, and the hardcoat’s ability to adhere to a lens.
We ask that you perform an SWB test daily and submit results to Quantum using our online
form. If you have failure or questionable results, please contact Quantum immediately.
Gram Tape Pull (Tape Pull)
The purpose of this test is to provide an indication that the syperhydrophic is acceptable, rather
than a specific WCA score.
We ask that you perform a Gram Tape Pull test daily and submit results to Quantum using our
online form. If you have failure or questionable results, please contact Quantum immediately.
Send Lenses to Quantum Monthly
We ask that you send lenses to Quantum once per month for additional quality testing.
a. Use the envelopes included in your process install kit, or that are sent to you.
b. Please send two lenses per machine per coating per month.
c. We will send you a report with the results of our testing.
Please include a copy of the SWB and GOF and GTP records for the past month with your
lenses.
Please also include a copy of your LMS data for processes run.

The ACE® and FusionEdge™ pads are excellent products for super hydrophobic (SHP) coated lenses. With two diff erent adhesives, one for the lens (to eliminate twisting) and the other to hold (but not stick to the block) while deblocking. ACE® is our most popular SHP pad. The FusionEdge™ is optimized for Fusion AR coatings. Note: Pads not displayed in actual size.
