8. Details of Activities organised during the Quarter:

SEVAI-2K17 The NSS units of Jamal Mohamed College, Trichy conducted the

SEVAI-2K17 programme, the valedictory function for the NSS Volunteers on

06th April 2017 in the college campus. The Secretary & Correspondent,

Additional Secretary, Treasurer, Principal and all the Management

Committee members of the college participated and felicitated the NSS

Volunteers during the programme. Mr. C. Samuel Chelliah, Regional

Director of NSS, Chennai was the chief guest for the programme. Dr. A.

Lakshmi Prabha, NSS Programme Coordinator of Bharathidasan University

graced the occasion. The Regional Director also released a booklet namely

„SEVAI – 2K17‟, which contained the major services of the NSS Volunteers

during the year. All the NSS Programme Officers, NSS Volunteers of the

college were present in the programme.

Training on Home Gardening

Training on Home Gardening for the female NSS Volunteers of Govt.

Arts College, Kumbakonam was held on 09.04.2017. Mr. Sekar is growing

various plants especially vegetables in Tiruvalanjuli, near kumbakonam.

The NSS Volunteers under the guidance of the NSS Programme Officer, Dr.

Jayavanishri made a field visit to Mr. Sekar‟s garden. He instructed the

volunteers about planting, weeding, watering and growing the plants at

home.

Road Safety Awareness Programme

Bharathidasan University Model College, Vedaranyam conducted a

Road Safety Awareness Programme on 10-11 April 2017 for the NSS

Volunteers of the college. Dr. T. Raja, NSS Programme Officer welcomed the

gathering. Dr. B. Prabaharan, Head, Dept. of Management Studies gave the

presidential address. Dr. M. Madhavan, Head, Department of Tamil gave a

special address on “Role of a Student about Road Safety”, Mr. N.

Arivuchelvan gave a special address on the topic “Safe Journey – Roles &

Responsibilities of a Common man”, Dr. K. Palas, Faculty of Tamil proposed

the Vote of Thanks at the end of the programme. All the 100 NSS

Volunteers of the college participated in the programme.

Mega Youth Festival

A Mega Youth Festival Was Organised At Madurai As Part Of The

Former Chief Ministers Of Tamil Nadu, Bharat Ratna, Dr. M.G.

Ramachandran‟s Centenary Birth Anniversary And Dr. J. Jayalalitha‟s 69th

Birth Anniversary Celebrations On 05.05.2017.

As Part Of The Mega Youth Festival Traditional Cultural Competitions

Were Held In The Presence Of Honourable Chief Minister Of Tamil Nadu, Mr.

(Edappadi) K. Palanichamy. About 81 Colleges And Universities Across The

State Participated In The Competition. Among All The Colleges And

Universities Participated In The Competition Bharathidasan University‟s

Cultural Team Won The I Prize, Which Consists Of A Memento And Cash

Prize Of 1 Lakh. The Second Prize Is 50,000/-, Third Prize Is 40,000/-,

Fourth Prize Is 30,000/- And The Fifth Prize Is 25,000/-. Apart From

That 10,000/- Was Given To All The Participated Teams.

The Vice-Chancellor, Dr. V.M. Muthukumar Felicitated The Cultural

Team. The Registrar, Dr. R. Babu Rajendran, Coordinator, Dr. A. Lakshmi

Prabha, Trainers, Dr. Saravanan, Mr. Vinothraj And Others Were Present

On The Occasion.

International Yoga Day Celebrations

The 3rd International Day of Yoga was celebrated on 21.06.2017

across the globe. The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University in association

with the Nehru Yuva Kendra celebrated the International Day of Yoga on

21.06.2017 at Youth Hostel, Tiruchirappalli. Mr. P. Sankar, Founder, White

Rose Yoga Foundation trained the NSS Volunteers with various asanas.

Around 100 NSS Volunteers participated in the programme.

Awareness Programme about the Swachhata App

The NSS Units of Holy Cross College, Trichy and the Tiruchirappalli

City Corporation jointly organised an awareness Programme about the

Swachhata App programme on 21st June 2017. Sr. (Dr.) Christina Bridget,

Principal, Holy Cross College, Trichy Presided over the programme. Mr.

Balasubramaniyan, Assistant Commissioner, Tiruchirappalli City

Corporation and Mrs. Pushparani, Junior Engineer explained how to

download the SWACHHATA APP and its uses. They also highlighted how to

keep the city clean by making use of Swachhta App to get first rank in

future. In this programme 300 students and staff members were

participated.

Awareness Programme on Deficiency of Mental Health The NSS unit of SMK College of Arts and Science for Women,

Thuriayur, Trichy district conducted an awareness programme on the

deficiency of mental health for the students on 27th June 2017. The

Chairman, Administrative Officer, Principal, NSS Programme Officer, Ms. K.

Ilavarasi, Professors and the students took part in the programme.

International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University in association with the

Department of Mental Health Services organised an awareness rally in view

of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on

29th June 2017 in Trichy. The District Collector, Mr. Rajamani flagged off

the rally in the presence of NSS Coordinator, Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha and

other dignitaries. The rally started at the District Collectorate passed

through the central bus stand and ended at the District Collectorate.
