Season of Stewardship

“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

— Matthew 6:21

The most important act of a steward is nurturing their relationship with Jesus through prayer. Every steward makes an intentional decision to make time for God in their daily lives. How do you spend your time? Do you spend time with God daily or looking to grow deeper in relationship with Him? Consider joining liturgical ministry or a prayer group! The Season of Stewardship is your op-portunity to prayerfully discern enhancing your prayer, service, or gifts to Queen of the Rosary. As we discern our intentions, please keep all of the pa-rishioners of Queen of the Rosary in your prayers!

PADS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED (Public Action to Deliver Shelter)

The 2019-2020 PADS season has begun. PADS will be providing food and shelter for the homeless at Christus Victor Lutheran Church from October through April this year. They are in need of additional volunteers to make this community program successful. They need individuals who would be willing to cook a portion of the weekly meal and/or purchase items needed in the kitchen. Volunteers are asked to cook or purchase something once a month during the season. Our other need is for kitchen volun-teers. These individuals assist in the kitchen on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. Duties include preparing for the guests, serving dinner, and cleaning the kitchen. Kitchen workers are scheduled about once every 6 weeks. They already have several volunteers from Queen of the Rosary, but still need more. If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity, please contact Laurie Miller at 847-437-5343 for additional information.

Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time Gospel Luke 19: 1-10 Most of us have no trouble visualizing Zacchaeus, a short man who climbed the sycamore tree so he could see Jesus as he passed. Zacchaeus was on the verge of something important, but he probably did not go up in the tree so Jesus would notice him; he climbed the tree because he was seeking Jesus. Zacchaeus was wealthy; he was wealthy because he had over-collected taxes from the people. They hated him, but as Jesus reminds us at the end of the Gospel passage, “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save what was lost.” Zacchaeus was not a good steward of his blessings. Jesus was aware of that when he went to Zacchaeus’ home to be fed. Something important happened to Zac-chaeus; he went through a conversion experience – an encounter with Christ, an event that changed his life. He began to share with special regard for the poor. He began to reach out to those whom he had mistreated. That’s what discipleship living a stewardship way of life can do for us, too. We must undergo a transformation of mind and heart. Then we must reach out to God, to one another, and especially to those who are destitute, both spiritually and actually. As Saint Mother Teresa once said, “Love is not patronizing, and charity isn’t about pity; it is about love.” Until We Meet at the Table, Father Fred

Stewardship is not…

A Program Programs have a beginning and an end. Stewardship begins with a conversion of heart, but it never ends. It is something we will continue to practice for our entire lives. It is how we put into practice our discipleship in Jesus.

A Fundraiser in Disguise Sure, stewardship does involve money, but it's about much more than that. It involves giving to God from all aspects of our lives -- of our time (prayer) and talents (ministry involve-ment), in addition to our treasure (income). When properly practiced, equal emphasis is placed on each of the three "Ts" of stewardship.

Optional Some shy away from stewardship, saying "That's not for me." Sadly, these individuals are missing the point. Stewardship is for everyone. It's a Life philosophy that's primary benefici-aries are individual disciplined enough to embrace it fully. While parishes do benefit from stewardship, the real winners are the parishioners themselves, who come away from the experience filled with faith and love for Christ!

Queen of the Rosary has successfully completed the requirements to be recertified ( 2019-2021) as a Common Sense School, an honor that recognizes our efforts in teaching digital citizenship to young people and engaging the entire school community. By preparing our students to use technology safely and responsibly, we are providing them an opportunity to build lifelong habits to help them succeed in a tech-driven world.

This recognition is provided by Common Sense Education, part of a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of students by providing information and education they need to thrive in a world of media and technology.

In addition to our school being re-certified as a Common Sense School, Mrs. Wassenaar, Mrs. Minard, and Mrs. Petric completed the requirements earning them recognition as Common Sense Educators.

Queen of the Rosary Adult Faith Enrichment Opportunity

The Liturgy and Eucharist Landscapes for the Reign of God

Wednesday, November 13, 2019 7:00 pm in the church

with Breda Barry, Presenter

Let us gather together to reflect upon what it is we say and do every week when we come to worship. What it is we say and do when we participate in a role within the Liturgy? What are the mysteries we may miss – by which we are ultimately meant to be transformed? And if transformed; into what ex-actly? How do we say 'yes' to being changed and transformed, so all around us and through us may reflect the One whose reign we profess, by the truly awesome power of the Holy Spirit?

Breda Barry currently serves at St. Anne, Barrington as part of the pastoral leadership team for adult faith formation. She earned both a BA and BMu in Music from the National University of Ireland as well as a diploma in Sacred Liturgy from Pontifical University of Maynooth, Ireland. She is currently completing her Master's Degree in Liturgy and Music from Catholic Theological Union, Chicago.
