3 years of Basic Training
Advanced Training: 3 to 4
years depending on subspecialty
Basic paediatric training
Complete internship and Post Graduate Year 2
Secure an accredited position as a resident or registrar at an accredited hospital = Need to get onto the QLD BT Network in Queensland
Approval by Director of Paediatric Education (DPE)
Register with RACP prospectively
36 months of Basic Training (time)
Advanced Paediatric Training
Written and clinical examination in year 3 (need to complete 2 years of basic training)
Advanced training upon completion of training requirements and exams
Advanced training: minimum 36 months
General Paediatrics and other subspecialties
Can do dual training, need to fulfil both advanced training committees’ requirements

Competencies to specify the professional behaviours, values and practices expected of trainees
Knowledge guides to specify the breadth of knowledge that trainees require across the medical specialties
Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) to specify the key work tasks that trainees need to be able to perform with only minimal supervision by the end of Basic Training
Teaching and Learning
To specify the strategies and methods to learn and teach curricula standards, including required and recommended activities
Assessments
Assessment program, which is the planned and deliberate use of assessments used to form an overall picture of each trainee’s competence from beginning to completion of the Basic Training program

Allows sharing of examination preparation workload (e.g. through PCEPP, PWEPP and practice exam)

Hold general registration with the Medical Board of Australia

The selection of basic paediatric trainees is based on merit assessed against with the following domains:
Trainee as a learner and teacher
Commitment to the people of Queensland
Trainee as a team member
Trainee as a professional
Trainee as a decision maker
Trainee as after-hours clinician.

Suitable and selected: successful application
Suitable: applied to oversubscribed network rotation, selection to undersubscribed rotation
Suitable: not in the merit list for the Network, waitlisted for second round offer
Not suitable: failed selection process. Apply for non-training PHO position.

Townsville: Townsville 1 year and Mater Mothers Hospital (MMH) 2 years. Option to stay in Townsville for 2 years
Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH): MMH 1 year, GCUH 1 year and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) 1 year
Mater: MMH 2 years and RBWH 1 year
RBWH: RBWH 2 years and MMH 1 year
