RESEARCH

The internet was my main source of research.

My initial research consisted of just looking at pre-existing film trailers and so this entailed a high usage of popular video website, youtube.

Although, I also wanted to look further into most of these films and so other popular websites came in handy such as imdb, which is probably the biggest online source for movie information ever.

Wikipedia was very useful when looking up theorists such as Todorov and Propp and gave me all the relevant information I needed, other things I researched on here were conventions of horror, key roles in creating a film, and also existing horror gilms.

Also, when using my blog (blogspot.com) I used google images as a constant source when uploading photos such as film poster examples etc.

Lastly, another website I used as a research source was BBFC’s own website. I did a lot of research into certificating films in order to ensure we could accurately certificate our film merely just from creating the trailer.

Presenting this research came through a mixture of blog posts, powerpoint presentations and prezi.

AUDIENCE RESEARCH

Firstly, we created a survey using online survey software – surveymonkey. This was a compilation of 10 questions which would give us an insight into the likes and dislikes with regards to film and the horror genre from our target audience.

We then used facebook and other social networking sites such as twitter to distribute the link so that we could get as many people as possible to fill out the survey.

After getting 30 responses, we put all of the answers together and analysed the results with the same survey site.

With the results, I created a presentation to display this using online presentation software, prezi.

I also personally interviewed some members of my school who were in the target age group. I filmed these interviews, edited it using Windows Movie Maker and then uploaded the finished product to youtube.

Plus, after creating each of my ancillary tasks, I uploaded them onto facebook to get some audience feedback and see if there were any final changes to make.

PLANNING

To start with, my first plans were hand drawn on paper and so I used a remote scanner, which then emailed me images of these plans so I could upload them straight to my blog.

The next stages of planning such as storyboards, were created in Microsoft word and then uploaded to slideshare in order to access them easily and in a more pleasant way through my blog.

Our next step was to find suitable locations and so as a team we searched our local area and decided on three definite main locations and some possibilities for other areas. To document this, I photographed the locations using a DSLR camera and uploaded the best images to my blog.

Also, while we searching for locations, I used this time to practise my filming skills and also to do some test shots and so after this, I again used WMM to edit and then uploaded the finished product to my blog.

Paint was used to create an initial mock up for both my poster and magazine cover.

I created a group on facebook to plan and schedule filming and to get in contact with the actors quickly and easily.

CONSTRUCTION - TRAILER

To actually film my trailer (also the location tests mentioned earlier), I used both a sony handycam which was a smaller camcorder, and also the large sony video camera.

While filming, I used a Nikon DSLR camera to document what I was doing and also a Samsung phone camera.

After the first day of filming, I put some pictures together to evidence on my blog and uploaded them to photosnack, an image presentation website which allowed me to use a new and innovative way of displaying photos on my blog.

Along with the filming equipment we had a fair bit of sound equipment to go with it which included using a boom mic/pole, plus the obvious use of headphones etc.

I downloaded sound effects from soundjay.com and the soundtrack from royalty-free music site, incompetech.co.uk.

Final Cut Pro was the editing software I used to put the trailer together.

The final trailer was then uploaded to youtube.

Photoshop was used for both the poster and magazine cover.

My fonts were sourced and downloaded from online font database, dafont.co.uk.

EVALUATION

For Question 1 (This question) I, clearly, have put together a presentation using Microsoft Powerpoint and this will then be uploaded onto slideshare and subsequently my blog.

Question 2 will be created on prezi.

The third question will be written on a word document and put onto slideshare.

For Question 4, I used a Kodak digitial camera to film the video, used Movie Maker to edit and then uploaded the outcome to youtube.
