May 2016 Vol 8 / Issue 5 Dear Sai Bandhus, The month of Chaitra resounds with the cries – “ Jai Sree Raam”, “ Jai Jai Raghuveera Samartha”, hailing the glory of Lord Ramachandra, the seventh avatara of Lord Srihari. As Sai devotees, we also have a special connection with Ramanavami which we celebrate it as “ Lord Sai Maharajs’ birthday”. Now, how is so that Ramanavami is Sai Babas’ birthday? We all know that there is no concrete evidence or proof of Sai Babas’ birth or parentage. If this so, then why celebrate Ramanavami as Sai Babas’ birthday!!! Ramayana clearly states- “Raamo Vigrahavaan Dharmah…” [Rama is veritably a manifestation of righteousness]. Dharma or righteousness, though looks very delicate is still as sharp as the razor edge. It is a well established fact that who all stuck to dharma despite of all the odds emerged victorious and succesfull [in other terms attained their goal] and the ones who stood against it perished in no time. Righteousness is one that keeps us disciplined in life, sharpens our intellect, keeps us firmly rooted to the ground (devoid of egoism), makes us an embodiment of untold power that gives us all the confidence thereby helping us to face any adversaries in life with a right spirit, always enlivens our spirit to perform our duties assiduously and selflessly. With all these qualities based on dharma, Sri Ramachandra is rightly addressed as Maryaada Purushotthama”. Since Sai Maharaj, who was Parabrahman himself , set an example to his devotees by assiduously treading the righteous path like Ramachandra, we celebrate “Sriraamanavami” as the birthday of “Sri Sai Raama”. Also before concluding this editorial, we would also make a humble request to all that- It is nice that we celebrate Sri Ramanavami as Sai Babas’ Jayanthi, but let us celebrate it with complete awareness in our minds that this birthday has nothing to do with the birth of a mortal frame but celebrating it with the spirit of complete awareness of the similarity between the Dharmaparaayanatvaa of Sri Ramachandra and Sai Samartha. Further, we would also like to add that each devotee would like to worship Sai Maharaj in his own way. Each and every one of us have our “Ishta Devataa” [Form of the God of our liking]. It is known fact that Sai Baba gave darshan to his devotees in the form of their “Ishta Devataas”. For example, if someone likes Lord Siva and worships Baba as Lord Siva, he might like to celebrate Mahasivaratri as Sai Babas’ birthday. Similarly, if someone worships Baba as Maa Durga he may like to celebrate Navaraatra as Sai birthday. So, as Krishna says- “Yad bhaavam tad bhavati” {As you think, So I am}. So, the moral is, Sai will manifest to all of us in our Ishta devataa swaroopas and we could worship him in the way we worship our Ishtha, but let us all remember- Sai is in all the forms but yet he is formless, he donned a form for our sake, if not he is “THE ULTIMATE NON-DUAL ONE”. Further, we would like to request that by celebrating Sai Babas’ birthday on Ramanavami, let us not force others also saying that “Celebrate Sai Babas’ birthday on Ramanavami alone and on no other day…”. Let us first realize that Sai gave no details of his birthday, parentage, place of birth etc; its only out of tender love for him that we celebrate Sri Ramanavami as “Sai Jayanthi” . We conclude our writing saying that, Sai exists in every minute , every second of this time cycle, nay in reality he is beyond this cycle, so let us not bind HIM to time, place and person.
