What is Not Pretty LikeThe Rainbow About? Not Pretty Like The Rainbow is a brave, bighearted play which explores the ripple effectthat imprisonment has on women’s lives.

Three women, known only as 66, 70 and 46,have their lives derailed by short sentenceswhich put their housing, families and mentalhealth at risk. Now, it’s finally time to tell theirstories. At a time when short sentences have beenwidely recognised as ineffective, Daisy Kingasks what this means for the women who arestill serving time for six months or less andoffers audiences some alternatives toconsider.

"Not Pretty Like a Rainbow grewfrom the personal stories andexperiences shared by women ofClean Break; sharing with me theconsequences and repercussionsthat short term sentences had ontheir lives. Feeling the enormity of exploringthe large and important subjectarea and at a time of suchpinnacle far-reaching andprofound change, I chose to focuson the individual stories of threewomen, and although fictional, allare drawn and inspired by theconversations.  Most inspiringwas the incredible wit andintelligence with which they weretold which quickly became thevertebrae of the play" Daisy King Playwright
