    DIESELFUEL IFIILTERIWATER

    SEPARATORS

    Racor Industries is an internationalcompany marketing products in 60countries through a network of over2,000 distributors and dealers.Founded n 1969 to manufacture andmarket innovative diesel fuel -filterlwater separator systems, Racorhas extended its product line toinclude:

    (P 20 Series Spin-on Diesel FuelFilterIWater Separators* Recycling and RecycleIBlenderSystems

    @ Air Dryers for vehicularcompressed air systems

    * Diesel Fuel HeatersFuel Additives

    ~3 Hydraulic Filtration Systemsi,'The precision fuel meteringcomponents of diesel engines areespecially vulnerable to damage byliquid and solid contaminants n fuel.Airborne dust and dirt, rust and algaeinduced by the presence of water instorage tanks through condensationand mishandling, all contribute to:* blown injector tips

    fouled injector nozzlesexcessive pump, injector and ringwearloss of power and poorperformance

    Racor's patented filterlseparatordesign and process removes virtually10 0% of the damaging water and solidcontaminants from diesel fuel. There isa Racor unit for engine systems withflow rates from 1 0 gph to 900 0 gph.There are no moving parts andmaintenance is minimal.

    .The installation of a Racor fuel,/filter/water separator in a diesel fuel

    system will bring the following benefits:0 less pump and injector wear@ more complete combustion

    * less exhaust emission@ lower fuel consumption0 less down time and maintenance@ increased operating profits ;

    The industries we serve include on-highway automobile, busses andtrucks; off-highway construction,logging and mining; marine workboat,off-shore drilling and exploration andpleasure boat; agriculture; stationarypower equipment and fuel storage

    tanks; railroad; recreational vehiclesas well as industrial applications.Racor diesel fuel filterlwaterseparators and related products havebecome the standard for all of theseindustries.HOW THE RACOR FILTER1SEPARATOR WORKSThe three stages of the Racor filter1separator work in series toprogressively clean the diesel fuel.Because virtually all water and particleof solid contamination are removed inthe primary and secondary stages, theeffective life of the fine micronreplaceable element (the third stage) 2-3 times longer than standard filters.Primary Stage (Separation)In the primary stage, l iquid and solidcontamination down to 30 micron areseparated out by centrifugal actioncreated by the turbine centrifuge.There are no moving parts in this highefficient design. Because thecontamination is heavier than the fuel,it falls to the bottom of the clear bowl.Secondary Stage (Coalescing)This stage functions when minuteparticles of l iquid contamination (lightethan the fuel) remain in suspension anflow up with the fuel into the lower parof the filterlseparator shell. Here theminute particles tend to bead on theinner wall of the shell and the bottom othe specially treated replacementelement. As the beads accumulate,they become larger and heavier andeventually fall to the bottom of thefilterlseparator bowl.Final Stage (Filtration)In this stage, the fuel flows through thereplacement element where the minutsolids are removed.

    Remove vacuum side filters in fuelline between fuel tank and fuelpump. Cast-in-heador non-removable housing should beadapted with primary spin-onadaptor, (Racor part no. 1 1548)where applicable. Otherwise,service and leave n place.Mount Racor FilterISeparatorvert-ically on the vacuum side of the f uelpump or transfer punrp -- whichevercomes first -- in a convenientlocation or servicing.lnstall fuel line from fuel tank to

(SeeFittings Chart, page 3.)Install uel line from the outlet sideof the Racor FilterISeparator o theinlet of the fuel pump or transferpump with appropriate ittings andmaximum size fuel line.Remove id and prime the systemby pouring clean ue l into ilter1separator housing until ull. Replacelid and hand tighten t-handle.Start engine and test system.

    W POSIITUONlNG THE UNIIT:Locate the unit between thehorizontal planes of the bottom ofthe fuel tank and pump inlet forminimum restriction to the pump.DO not remove the lid and t-handle.Do not overtorque the clamp bolts.Overtorquing will distort housingand seal leaks will occur.Maintain vertical clearance abovethe filterlseparator housing forservicing of elements.
