Md. Monirul Islam, DM-CM, SC addressing in the meeting

Data Sharing- Deputy Manager-Community Mobilization, SJ-SCI Md. Monirul Islam described mid-term evaluation data to the audience. First he shared a baseline data 2009 of ICDP-SJ. Only 30% people of Meherpur district was obtaining education besides 60% of national score while Meherpur was more vulnerable position. Child marriage age limit was 14.2 years in Meherpur district. Secondly he shared the mid-term evaluation data.

He said, working ICDP-SJ program of Save the Children from 2009 in Meherpur district, the scenario is being changed. The data of 2014 47% people are educate in Meherpur district, 42.7% children acquire primary education. Child marriage age limit increases 14.7 years.

Background of ICDP-SJ- Save the Children is an international non profitable organization. The aim of the organization is æ A world in

which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation”. It works 120 countries in the world. But, ICDP-SJ program only works in Bangladesh at Meherpur district only. Deputy Manager-Community Mobilization, SJ-SCI Md. Monirul Islam addressed that the national Statistical data of Meherpur in 2009 was very poor like Education, Child Marriage etc. Education was only 37%, the age limit of child marriage was 14.5 years. And very sad is only 30% of children could pass grade five. Save the Children thought for the children of Mehrepur that how we could ensure the proper education & protection. And finally a program designed title Integrated Child Development Program-Shishuder Jonno sitting an aim the æ All children of Meherpur will learn with their full potential”. Avoiding different challenges and kind help of Mehepur people we are now on 20015. The last survey data of ICDP-SJ-2014 shows that the education rate of Meherpur is increasing remarkably. Govt. data shows education rate is 46.3%. Child Marriage age is 14.7. He addressed in a participatory way in the meeting. He said that Meherpur district is the 6th district of Bangladesh in Economy. Its main economy is agriculture. But the rate of malnutrition is high. But it is you whom are to awake up to get golden future of your child. Early age of a child is the bud of the life. You should have care of your child in the golden period; not in matured aged. He mentioned the shared data that the rate of education of Meherpur in 2014 shows incising status as well as child marriage limit etc. He pointed the role of CCG in community action. He said each CCG is forming within 250 H/H. It bases a minor community. The CCG member can easily informed about the news of the community. The CCG will work specially for children. They will develop an action plan assessing the real situation of their community considering education of children, ensure rights of children, protect child marriage, child security etc. The CCG will not overlook of a child of poor family even physically challenged. Massages of Honorable Gust Head Teacher of Radhagobindapur Md. Habibur Rahman addressed at the meeting. He mentioned Meherpur district is self-depended by economic strength but educationally is in. We the people can change the scenario by dedication for our next generation. He set an example with bus. A bus can lead you to a limited direction but you have to move the entire journey by yourself. A NGO or a program works for development for a specific target for a limited timeline such the bus but aftermath should be lead those targeted people for themselves. He pointed a poetic massage by World Poet Rabindranath Tagore, “Choto Choto Balikar Kona, Bindu Bindu Jol, Gore Tole Mohadesh, Sagar otol” that means contribute a little with a vision to a big achievement. His invites the people of Kathuli to come to be together and achieve more. He said that we should not forbid our children doing as they think but should be careful that nothing goes harm. We have a wrong believe that watching TV is courage of child development and culture. Modern technologies are the demand of modern IT world. TV is a way of learning. There is nothing wrong. Children will receive the trends of the world as well as society and country. We have a pedigree that wealth is all of happiness. This is why we involve our children in different income generating activates specially in agriculture except acquire education. As a result in our locality there is no one person will be found as higher professional like doctor, UNO, DC or any other. Our failure is here. We should change our thinking. Left the pedigree or culture, acquire education, earn money, get honor and illuminate the society. There is a very common practice in our community to get marry off our daughter under 18. Mostly we find only 11-15 years girls are married off. We think a girl child is the curse. And we through this gaint like a dusty ways. Question is to the community- Why…..? This is a great shame of our civilization. There is the equal opportunity in every sector of the world. They also learn and acquire education and wealth. Rather there is different difficulties early marriage both girls and boys. So, come to take oath not to get marry off our children under 18. He thanks to SCI and PSKS for working with children for development.

Voice of the Participants: There was an open discussion slot for the participants. CCG Members, Teachers, Imams and Kazis shared their opinion. A voice of audience said that this is an area of national international boundary with India. As aresult drug is available in this community. A child is affected by the aggression of Drug. A Kazi thanks to CCGs organizing such a gathering or the forum of sharing views and data to see the scenario of our society. He words not to registry any marriage of girl under 18. A CCG member thankfully expressed that we are very pleased coming together under one roof leaving our daily chores viewing to share our achievement and taking a new plan for betterment and development of our children of our locality. We expect a successful day and spontaneous entrance of all participants. Female teacher of Dhola high school expected a high responsibility from the participants that they must stand against the child marriage. The little steps will bring a good fruits for future for an innocent girl as well as our community and also for the country. An Imam words that he will discuss these issues after prayer in the weekly prayer day to make awareness of the community. Cultural program- Md. Hatem Ali and Me. Majerul presented two folk songs and at end of the program staged a dram on child marriage titled “Raj Kumarir Bia”. After the drama there was an oath that we should not get married off our daughters or sisters under 18 years.

12. Duration: The main program was started at 10:00 AM and ends 3:00 PM. 13. Role of CCGs during workshop: To make success the program, the 9 CCG members bearded responsibility. They formatted 5 different committees among them and each committee had different responsibility.

Page 15: Ramkrishnapur_Kathuli_Broader Community Workshop Reporting Format English

a) Management Committee- The management committee invited the selected participants, lead the other teams, support with specific necessities etc.

b) Decoration Committee- Decoration committee managed stage and paddle decoration, proper electronic supplies, sitting arrangement etc.

c) Registration Committee- Registration Committee ensured registration of invited participants. d) Food Committee- Food committee ensured food for invited guests. e) Entertainment Committee- Entertainment committee took lead to give enjoy. Rather than the members of

those 9 CCG were active and managed everything thus nothing goes wrong.

14. Massage of Accountability- Md. Monirul Islam, DM-CM discussed the massage of accountability. He said to the audience that we expect your any complains, opinion, suggestion etc. about Shishuder Jonno Program. You may place your voice to us through toll free number or written or any ways. We will try our best to make respond to you. We are accountable to you or the community. The toll free number is 08009001000. 15. Challenges for organizing the workshops: To organize such a big gathering there were few challenges. 1. Proper time: As most of the participants were village people, they had different assignment mostly in

agriculture. So, to manage a better time it was so challenge. 2. Hot weather: Though it was rainy session but the sun was in sky. Hot weather made a great challenge to

make sit the participants under open air. 3. Activity of 5 Committee: The CCGs formed 5 different committees to make success the program. But the

committees were only by name; was not in full actions. 4. Food Vendor- The food vendor did not supply the lunch to the participants in time.

16. Observation Note: It was an essential event for ICDP-SJ program. Community Mobilization is the main bed of ICDP-SJ. All interventions are waiting for positive response from CM or Community. ICDP-SJ wants the community will bear responsibility to change their society. To make it happen; need to mobilize the CCGs and other acting people of the community. Through the workshop the community people got information about ICDP-SJ and work & achievement of CCG. The people of the gathering took some major decision as an action plan. Masuring the participation of community people representative Save the Children congratulated the actors specially PSKS. There is a remarkable observation is- only background of SCI were discussed but not PSKS. If there is a section to address the background of PSKS, it will be clearer to the participants about PSKS. 17. Lesson Learn: This is a big gather with the community people. It symbol that ICDP-SJ has strong foundation. And the new implementation partner sketches an achievement. We may categories the bellows-

1. Successful Event- It was successful event considering the active participation of the community people. 2. Sustainability- The action plan of the program shows the dream of sustainability. 3. Organizational Accountability- Organizing such kind a gathering is a symbol of possibility which is the

partner’s accountability the community as well as to SCI.

Page 16: Ramkrishnapur_Kathuli_Broader Community Workshop Reporting Format English

4. PSKS as an organization of People- As PSKS is a local organization, the people of Meherpur thinks it is only the organization of Microcredit but through the meeting the brand of PSKS is publishing with a boarder scale as well as SCI

18. Conclusion: Though there were different challenges; an active participation of different levels people, action plan, information and achievement sharing, entertainment etc. made the program success. We got voice of people that how much is needed the Shishuder Jonno Program to change the Community for proper development of the children of Meherpur. The mid evaluation data and dream of participants are the key indicator to measure the change of the community. The gathering shows the symbol of sustainability of ICDP-SJ.
